Livery editor?

Wouldn't it be cool to get a livery editor for project cars 2? Forza, and gran turismo has one, why not project cars 2?

No not really, I like project cars because IT IS NOT gran turismo nor forza.
This really has no bearing on whether a livery editor is appropriate for PCARS3. The game already allows custom liveries on PC and, somehow, the PC version is still not GT or Forza.

However, as was said above, according to SMS the memory on the PS4 and XBone are limited enough to make for a compromise between custom liveries and grid size. So I won't hold my breath for a livery editor on this generation of consoles.

Still, at the very least it would be nice to have an HSL color picker as an option for a plain paint job. I don't think that could be too much for the consoles to handle.

Yes because pc doesn't have the same limitations as console. However console games that have livery editors or custom liveries compromise other features that could be in the game.

I just don't want project cars to waste resources on those kind of features

It still doesn't have anything to do with what kind of games GT or Forza are. A livery editor is perfectly sensible for PCARS even if you are as uncharitable as possible in designating it a super serious motorsports simulator for no one but super serious motorsports simulator fans. Because liveries are a part of super serious motorsports, as well as super serious PC sims.

Personally, I would accept another downgrade in the maximum grid size to, say, 24 cars if my PS4's struggle to field the last eight cars on the grid could hypothetically be spent to allow me to sport a livery of my own design. I already regard 24 cars as a soft limit, and that's still four times as many cars as the last simulator I considered worth dedicating my time.

Yes sure it's sensible if you are willing to compromise other features in the game which I am not. A 32 car grid size is already a compromise enough. We could do 45 on ps4 in pc1. Live track, a i. and tyre model lowered that in pc2. Livery editor there's no room for that, IMO.

Ian said they actually wanted one for Project CARS 2 but it would take too much time. However, he said it was possible in PC3 which I expect to be on the next generation of consoles.

Are you willing to concede that it isn't about GT or Forza then, or what kind of game PCARS is? A livery editor not being particularly valuable to you is fine, but your first comment came across as claiming it has only casual appeal and should be reserved for games like GT or Forza.

I'd just appreciate the option to make liveries in a genuine simulator, as opposed to a lesser one. Same deal with anything else on my wishlist that tends to rub some people the wrong way. It's BECAUSE the game isn't GT or Forza that I would like to take some things you can find in such games, and to enjoy them in PCARS instead.

The point I'm trying to get across is that those casual console racers tend to implement features such as livery editors before a decent tyre model.

But I will concede if we can have a livery editor on top of all the important stuff of course I'll take it. Which is why I consider building a gaming pc with each passing day

I'd rather have custom offline championships than anything.
And that's why project cars will always be the small time sim racing game of the 3.

Yeah I hope so, don't want a game that focuses on loot crates, scape mode and fantasy vision cars. Then I'd really be forced to buy a pc and move on to raceroom, assetto, corsa, and mortgage my house to play iracing

Project cars 2 should have a livery editor. No excuses! Getting tired of seeing the same ole livery's.
I don't need a livery editor for this game. The option would be welcome. However, it depends on a series. Real racing cars, which we do have in the game, usually keep the same livery through the year. Does it get boring seeing those cars on TV? Calsonic, Shell, any Red Bull car. Those may have slightly variations, but remain the same through a season.

There are also other iconic cars. The Sauber cars, Group B, etc. Out of the 200 cars we have, there's almost infinite combinations of liveries every time we play.

I don't think anyone has played the game that much, where seeing the same livery is a regular occurrence. Unless you mean using the same car and choosing the same livery over and over(?).

I'd like a livery editor as well. But it's not the top of the list of things I feel the game needs by any stretch. It's nice seeing my own designs on circuit but I can enjoy the current ones as well.

At least someone would argue that Pcars 2 is a "sim".

I dont think is should have.It would be nice but I prefer to have a title focused in the "sim" part first and then "looks" are welcome. It would be nice but most can live without it -me included-.

Can't argue with that, i will admit project cars 2 has the best gameplay, but I'd love to see project cars with Forza 7's car list, and gran turismo's attention to detail.

In before the kneejerk dog-piling...

I did miss the Austin Cooper S and Vintage Sport Compact cars in Forza(I just bought F7). The livery editor works fine when recreating vintage liveries.

I'm not love looking for anyone to agree, but I feel a livery editor in PC3 could/would/maybe should be limited to vintage cars and road cars.

Sure, in GTS, making a current 2018 real or replica livery for a GT3 & GT4(Gr.3 & Gr.4, respectively) is awesome. Project Cars is different to me. Seems more an authentic game, if that makes sense. SMS have done good with the TCR liveries, to where I wouldn't need a livery. However, the '66 RTR Mustang, would look cool with Shelby colors or a Coca-Cola livery or just a solid color with stickers and a number on the side.

It consumes processing power to have custom liveries
How so? Why would a custom livery consume more CPU/GPU than one SMS made themselves? If anything you could limit the capabilities of custom liveries to ensure they were simpler than the games in-built ones and this could free up processing power.

I have to admit that, playing on PC, I have had enormous enjoyment creating custom liveries for the cars I race in Project Cars 2. I started playing around November and a bunch of my colleagues and I found out you can download the UV maps for the cars and make custom liveries in Photoshop, then add them to the custom liveries folder in the game in the appropriate format and use them in races...as long as those you are racing with have the same file loaded onto their system. This works really well when we are racing each other in the office and file transfer is second nature.

We came up with some absolute beauties if I do say so myself, and seeing our liveries in the replays and screenshots we make really adds a thrilling extra dimension to the game for us:

I would desperately love to see PC3 allow multiple custom liveries per car model, as a colleague and I both wanted to use the Huracan GT3 but I had to 'retire' my livery so that he could use his.

I completely understand that it would affect memory and performance to have this on console and there are other priorities for people who want to race, just wanted to share my experience of how much extra this has brought to our experience of racing. I've even considered buying a 1:18 scale McLaren GT3 so I can find a customizer to actually apply my custom livery to the model :)

All the best

I think it would be good to have as a minimum a simple "random" type of livery generator. With ability to choose your race number and apply your racer name to the car. Maybe choose logos and other sponsors.

All this is on the bases that performance would not be impacted.

It is good to know that with a PC livery could be modified if one chooses to change the game files.

I agree. If it were implementable, I'd like to see the ability to just change the number and add my name to an existing car. Similar to what sports games made by Ian's favourite company do.

I would be happy with a stripes editor plus decals. Most of the cars I am interested in raced with stripes and a few logos - normally the oil and tyre sponsors. This hopefully would be easy to do in a game.

A full livery editor would probably be beyond my skills, but if there was a way of sharing / downloading liveries made by more talented people, this would be a nice feature.

I would want to do something like these two Willment Team cars - thick centre red stripe bordered by two thinner red stripes on a white background. The cars shown are 1963 289 AC Cobra and 1963 427 Ford Galaxie racing in the Springbok Series in South Africa. The Team also sometimes used a reversed livery of red with white stripes as on the 289 Willment Cobra Daytona Coupe.
