Loading forever? Like... forever

So the game just arrived today, I chuck it in, install it to the HDD. Follow all the normal prompts. I buy my first car (Golf GTI '05) -- do the 1st race on the C class list. Come 1st, then I go to do another race, I come 2nd. Then the next race that's available to me is the Speedway - Daytona race. So I hit OK to choose this race and next comes the screen where it shows what cars and what I'm up against etc. It never leaves this screen? I've been waiting 10 minutes, nothing happens. This also happens with some other tracks too. It doesn't appear to have frozen, because the in-game music is still playing and the 'Loading' is still flashing like normal.

I deleted my game data and started a fresh and even bought a different car (Suzuki Swift) -- I try and do the Speedway - Daytona race and nope, I get the same thing. The disc is flawless, I bought it brand new. Any suggestions would be a real help because I'm clueless as to what to do now...
 
It sounds like you are hitting a read error on your disc. This is usually caused by a flaw on the disc itself, and since you are only failing to load Daytona, this seems like the most likely explanation.
 
Don't know if it matters but is it Spec-III?

If not then get the update online and try it again.

Vaxen's reason sounds correct.

If all else fails, try to return it for a new disc at the game store you bought it from.
You said the game arrived so it sounds as though you did not buy it from a store but over the internet.

The game installs itself completely to HDD. So shouldn't a defective disc be detected during installation?
 
Recently I have had the same problem with prologue and was worrying if my PS3 was packing up! I have not tried it with any other games but will when I get home.
