I've occasionally had problems with my Driving Force GT (DFGT) as well. It always comes down to the same thing: whats plugged in and how. Do this: turn off your PS3. Turn it back on by pressing the power button on the console itself (do not touch any controllers or remotes). Now cable up your DFGT wheel, putting the power adapter plug into the wheel (not the wall), plug the pedal cable into the wheel, plug the USB cable from the wheel into the PS3. When plugging in the USB cable, use the outlet furthest to the left. NOW, plug in the power adapter into the wall. The wheel should do it's test where the wheel starts rotating itself. Now put your game into the PS3 and everything should work right. Also note that the self test that the wheel does when you plug it in, will repeat itself when Gran Turismo 5 Prologue starts entering its opening screens. If you do everything in sequence like I said, and the tests don't happen, or it still doesn't work, you probably have a defective wheel. The sequencing I noted probably isn't always necessary, but occasionally when I've used a different outlet or had a controller active, the wheel has not worked for me so I use the sequence to bypass any problems.
