I have a Logitech Driving Force wheel for my PS2 - Gran Turismo.
I just bought a PS3 and GTA4. Gran turismo will come soon.
- first question: can I plug the Logitech Driving Force wheel on my PS3 without damaging my console ?
- second question: does it work with GTA4 ?

First question: Yes. It works on the PS3 just fine.

Second question: Huh? You do have to walk and shoot and stuff in GTA games. Did it work in GTA3 (parts 1-3)? I am guessing...no.

Well, it is simple: you plugged the steering wheel on the USB port and you play the ''walk and shoot and stuff'' with the wireless pad... no ?

Iam asking this question because I heard about somebody playing that way... But I have no idea if he did some special set-up.

Thanks for your answers. :)

You try since you have it.. lol

And it's most useless idea since GTA4 is not even worthy to be a arcade racer... It's pointless, its meant to be played with a pad.

I'll just be completely honest, you are the first person I can remember ever asking that, so you caught me completely off guard.

As suggested, plug it in and try it, but I would not expect it to work.

Also, since you just got the PS3 if you have the wheel plugged in when you turn the system on it defaults to controller 1, which is fine for Gran Turismo games, but you need to hit the PS button on your Dual Shock and go into controller settings to change it from controller 2 to controller 1 to work on any game that won't use the wheel.

That is your point of view.
As soon as I started to drive cars, it was always with a steering wheel, not a pad. So my idea is not useless, it is not a question of arcade racer or not, it is a question of driving cars in a videogame, so on top of it, it is not pointless.

You're already old and closemind, aren't you ?

Thanks to the others who gave me positive answers.

I liked this post, so I went ahead and tried it for you. I have a Driving force Pro, but yours should work too. GTA4 is pretty much unplayable with this wheel. On foot, there's no way to make Niko walk or run (Since the pad controls the radio stations and your cell phone), and turning the wheel makes him spin in place. So, I grabbed the controller and carjacked an old lady, then switched the DFP to controller slot 1. The pedals don't work, so that means you'll have to accelerate and brake using the X and [] buttons; the steering works... Which doens't sound too bad, if it wasn't because of the AWFUL dead spots. The dead spot is HUGE and turning the car around is real troublesome.

So, in a nutshell, to succesfully play GTA4 with a Driving Force Pro, you'd need to:

a) Use the in-game XMB to switch your Sixaxis controller to slot 1 everytime you get out of a car to control Niko and map the DFP to controller slot 1 every time you get on a car.

b) Get used to the button mapping of the game while in-car; there's no custom configuration for the game's controls, so your choices are to use X [] or L2 R2 for gas/brake.

c) Get used to the huge dead spot of the wheel.

Thank you very much for having tried my suggestion ! :)

I will try it too, as soon as I have enough time other than being the father of a 18 months old cute baby girl...

At least, somebody prooved me that it is not a useless and pointless question I started this thread with...

Hey, if you spent $50+ USD on a wheel, you better get all the bang you can get for your money, that's what I say. I was bored one day and put my Stuntman Ignition disk in my PS3... Turns out, the Logitech Wheels (the DFP at least) are officially supported. I know it's an arcade game, but I like it because of it's chaotic factor and it's actually quite fun and frustrating to play with a wheel; it gives the game a completely different atmosphere.

So no, I don't think it's pointless, though not very practical because of the type of game GTA4 is.

Hey, Turbo Lag!

Nice to hear from you that the old Driving Force works with GT5 Prologue... But what do you mean with "all you need is the Profiler"?

Thanks!

You need software from Logitech´s official page called Logitech Profiler to use your wheel on PC. On PS3 you use it no problem.
