Love him, loathe him or never heard of him Alex Ferguson reached 25 years in charge of one of the biggest sports brands on the planet, Manchester United, this week. Unbelievable achievement in the modern era to last 10 years let alone 25. I was trying to think of anyone else who’s lasted as long at the top of their sport. F1 boss Ron Dennis was in charge at McLaren for nearly 30 years, 1980-2009, though you could say that as a senior stakeholder his position was more akin to owner/managers like Frank Williams than hired talent.

Anyone think of others?

Patrick Head was the engineering director at Williams F1 for like 25 years, and Bernie has been in charge of the F1 since Jesus died. Other then that, Wenger has been at Arsenal for about 15 years now. It is pretty rare for people to hold those types of jobs for too long though.

Joe "Pa" Paterno (the ageless one, whom I greatly admire) - Penn State Nittany Lions head coach since 1966.That's 45 years at the helm . Long live Joe Pa, great job indeed.👍

Eddie Robinson definitely. He was the head coach for Grambling State football from 1941-1997, thats 56 years.
