My Macbook Pro is getting close to 5 years old now and needs replacing. I use my laptop mainly for your average stuff. Surfing the web, burning/ripping CDs/DVDs, watching movies, and light gaming. Think Audiosurf, Sims 3, and World of Warcraft. I could probably get away with a $500ish laptop, but I want a little more ram and some sort of a graphics card so I can get away with playing WoW and Guild Wars 2 when it comes out next year. Right now, my main choice is a Dell Inspiron 15R with a Core i3, 4gb ram and a 1GB ATI HD550v for $699. It's my main choice because, well, I have a Dell card. I am open to other suggestions though. Portability isn't a factor for me. I'll only be moving it from the living room to the bedroom. I do not want a 17" screen though. I wouldn't mind a smaller laptop, but I know I can't get discreet graphics in a smaller laptop. Are there any other laptops anyone can recommend?

Have a look at sony, they arn't as expensive as you may think. Don't get cheap makes like toshiba or hp only get apple, sony or dell. Dell have some really good deals that you should watch out for, dells quality is very good and when they do go wrong they fix them and get them back to you in 2 weeks. Sony used to be very expensive however when I went into a sony store last week I saw a laptop for better spec then my dell then for a better price.

Consider both.

^ HP is cheap? I've had mine for over 4 years and it's still fine, though I'm going to upgrade when money allows...

I'm not that big on HP since they are now using such glossy plastic for laptops. The surface on the Acer's that I suggested don't seem as glossy as the HP's I have seen in real life. The Acer with the i5 cpu that I suggested seems to be the 2nd best rated laptop in the price range. It's pretty safe to stick with the Acer since it looks like it has nice plastic and very nice cpu and graphics to boot, so it would be a very good bang for the buck.
