Looking for a monitor

I'm looking for an IPS monitor in the under $200 range. It's hard to shop around for one, since I could really find any reviews done by tech sites. Let me know if you have any recommendations.

Best Buy has some decent prices, so I popped in today. I guess I'm not too picky, since they looked very similar with the one major factor being glossy vs matte. I liked the glossy monitors, but I'm not sure if I want one due to the potential issues. My TV is glossy, but I think these monitors are even more reflective. One of the matte monitors that stood out a bit was actually an AOC, but the brand makes me wary.

I'm thinking of trying the HP 23bw.

Because of the annoyance of the reflections or something else?

I will most likely end up buying a matte screen.

My plasma has a glossy screen. It produces a fantastic image. At night. During the day I might as well be looking at a mirror. All three of my other TVs and laptop are matte and are at least watchable during the day. Unless you're going to only use it in a completely light controlled room, go matte.

As @TB said, glossy screens look better under absolutely perfectly controlled conditions which don't exist in reality. That's why I don't buy them.

Consider something from Dell's Ultrasharp line. Just a tad over 200, but worth it IMO. I'm running a U2312HM and I'm incredibly happy with it, that model appears to be discontinued though. I've heard good things about the U2412, and U2414 models, they might be worth considering.

I second this, I have a U2412M and three U2312HMs and they're all great. The coating is a little, um, aggressive but if you keep them clean it's not a big deal. There are newer ones, though; I think the Dell P2x14 range have replaced the U2x12s. They seem to be priced about the same, anyway.

Edit: Oh, there are U2x14s, I hadn't realised.

Another vote for the Dell Ultrasharp, i've recently purchased a dell u2414h. I was looking for an all round good monitor with a small bezel and this was within my budget. also check out http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/ for reviews.

I have a U2312HM at the moment. The new monitor will be replacing an older Dell 19" S1909WX, which is actually pretty nice...I just need the bump in resolution.

I found this website for reviews: https://pcmonitors.info/
The reviewer gave a pretty good rating to the Samsung d390. It just has less features than higher priced options(1 HDMI, 1 VGA in, only tilt adjustment). I'll order and see how it compares to the 2312.

edit: Another good site for reviews is prad.de (use google translate if you don't read German)

I was an inch away from buying the ASUS PA238Q, but I went with a non IPS 24 in. ASUS VS248H-P
instead after reading good reviews, I really regret it now...:(.
I'm sorry about that. As Linus said (I'm paraphrasing) "monitors shouldn't be left out when building PC".

Don't get the Samsung D390 unless you can't afford anything better. I have/had it(waiting for a replacement). The stand is the worst thing I have dealt with in my life, and the panel itself isn't as good as Dell's U2313131313133h or whatever in terms of color. There's also ONE HDMI port and no displayport 1.2.

Bad timing...monitor will be here Wednesday. I'll see how it compares then. I wanted to try something different(non-Dell) to have something as a comparison point. I did read about the stand, but I took a gamble as the d590 was about $25 more. If it will be annoying, I guess I can always sell it or do some ghetto mod to fix it.

My next option was the PA248Q, which was over $100 higher.

It doesn't even have a VESA mount. You can adjust the tilt (with massive force), but the monitor will probably stay stationary on your desk. If you can deal with that it won't be a problem I guess.

Well, I got the monitor on Wednesday. I'm satisfied with the purchase. The only issue I have is a bit of backlight bleed on the upper left of the screen. It's not bad enough that I will bother with returning for a replacement.

The stand is pretty terrible, but apart from changing settings it doesn't wobble. My desk is pretty sturdy and I don't have a printer on my desk.
