Hi all. I've been into playing racing games and sims for over 10 years now since Grand Prix 2 and Need For Speed 1 came out. I've been playing racing games on my PC with a wheel since early 2000 (used it mostly for NFS Porsche and Rally Masters back then).

Anyway, right now, I've got a Logitech Driving Force Pro that I use with my PC and GT4 and I also have an older Thrustmaster Ferrari FFB GT (PC only). I'm looking for a relatively inexpensive racing seat/cockpit solution for my basement. I have lots of room so that's not a problem, and I have two displays I can use. I've got a 52" projection that I can play PS2 as well as PC on, but I also have a 24" LCD monitor with very high resolution for the PC.

My parents have spent a fair amount of money for this TV and my monitor and computer setup and Ps2 and the wheel I have and so on and so forth and I'd really like to make use of it. I've got a very big passion for racing and seeing as how I have all this hardware, I think it's time to take it to the next level. So far I've only found this:

It's called a playseat. Anyway, I'm looking for some suggestions. I don't have a fixed budget, but seeing as how that Playseat is $300, that's probably the most I'd be willing to spend. Maybe a little more if it was really damn good.

If you can muscle up the cost for a racing seat, either new or old, you should check out the Sparco Racing Cockpit.

Go here then once the page loads, click on the BUY button!

Another option in your price range is the Virtual Racing Chassis

Hope this helps?

I found that Virtual Racing Chassis by searching on google. I don't really like the look of that seat but I will look more into it.

I've heard of that Sparco before, but damn, $550. :scared:

True...but remember though...$550 is WITH the chair..if you opt to get just the frame, you could pick up just as good of a seat 'used' and still come out ahead!

I think making ur own cockpit would be the best way to go. buying a used seat off the junk yard ( old honda ) and making ur own frame to fit ur driving style would be best, + the feelings of accomplishment would be more than gratifying. i guess if ur not good with "building" u can always buy an already made one, but before, check out some of the ones people in GTP have made, get some ideas. i am about to build one, just looking for a good reasonable car seat to start with.

good luck...

I'm not really good at all with building, I guess my dad would be, but I do have the money required for a racing seat and I really want a good experience. It sounds better to make your own, but I'd rather buy one. Thanks for the link.

I can tell you the only problem with a cockpit..is getting out of it...it gives the game a feel of real you don't get with a chair and tabel set up...I built one over a yr ago..have sold a few and everyone feels the same...WHYdid I wait so long to get one ck it out www.simulatedmotorsports.com any question please feel free to contact me

Well after long looking for a cockpit, I realized all good 3rd party cockpits are pretty expensive, and I couldn't find a suitable table either to put in my basement (where my TV and PS2 and PC and all that is). Finally, what I did was, I took this exercise bike I have off with my dad, took off some parts, and just hooked up the wheel to it and using the recliner seat I already have. It's a very crude method of holding the steering wheel, but it's fun, it's adjustable, it works, and it's comfortable too. I'll post some pics of it later.

If you're still interested, I forgot to mention this one here...and it's in your price range as well! :D

I've seen that thing. It's simply too low for what I'm using. I have a rear projection TV up on this stand we have, and I would need at the very least a normal chair height. What I'm currently using is good (and high) enough so no more looking for racing cockpit for now.
