Looking for setup with less understeer on race-modded VW Golf IV GTI

So I built this car as a racing machine from ground up to beat much more powerful cars in FF and the Schwarzwald events. Unfortunately, I'm having huge problems to get rid of the understeer this car seems to natually produce.

I've tried pretty much everything, from altering the downforce to installing and playing with a limited slip differential (LSD) to tuning the suspension to turn in better. However, nothing really helps. With anything less than racing tires, this car just understeers badly regardless of whether I'm accelerating or not. To me it seems the car just overloads the front tires and goes straight on. That said, changing the suspension setup doesn't really improve driving, because the tires simply can not transport the changes onto the road for whatever reason.

I already went with an extreme setup: -4 deg front camber, loads of toe-in front and toe-out back, but it made the car behave very unnatural and inconsistenly while reducing the understeer only moderately. I also put on harder tires at the back to shift grip to the front, but it did nothing in slower corners and introduced bland oversteer in faster bends. I then went with default settings for downforce, LSD and suspension and then carefully tuned towards less understeer, which did help, but still is unsatisfactory overall.

The car drives okay with soft racing tires now, but sports are still impossible. Any hints on what to do?

Tuner Comments:
I was in the market for a Golf and this guy called Rotary Junkie had one up for trade. We struck a deal and I walked away with a hot little Golf. It already had the work done to it, racing modifications included, so I gave it new paint, some new wheels and started messing around with it. After changing suspension, gearbox and LSD settings, the Golf was faster overall compared to before. It easily gobbled up an R8 and a couple of M5’s around the Nurburgring.

a quick search for ya!

Well, it was posted after I made this thread, so I could not have found it at the time.

Thanks either way, I will try that setup as soon as I can. 👍

I tend to run fairly extreme swaybar settings on FWD cars, typically 1/5 or thereabouts. Just make sure the front spring rate is high enough to keep the steering from feeling soggy. Also make sure you have more camber in front than in rear due to the difference in roll resistance.

i am running a tweeked one based off the above...still finding ALOT of understeer. I am running racing hards (its what the championship i am currently running in requires)

I have gone (off memory)

Toe F -0.25 R 0
Camber F 4.0 R 0

i can do a sub 1 mintue lap of Tsukuba, i think its about a 59.7 (racing hards and with a controller)
