Guys like z06fun, McGee, weren't quite that high before, looks like alot of people are logging on and putting down some serious times.

Every time I set lap times to put myself in the top 128, I end up being bumped out by 20-30 spots a few days later.

I think we will see this type of thing as we go into later rounds. Call me paranoid, but I have a feeling there are a good amount of people holding back until round 2.

Anyone who knows Z would have expected to see him in the top 10 whenever he ended up with the time to run all tracks. He's definitely a top driver, and a good bet for going to the UK. 👍

Also still to arrive are Timeattack and Carl- although Carl hasn't shown any indication yet that he will be showing up, I am sad to say. I'm quite sure TA will take his spot near the top when he puts a few hours into the other two tracks.

Is there a McGee somewhere on the leaderboard that I missed?

He's only posted 1 time - at Tsukuba...but it's a 1:04.9. From the Southeast.

I'm sure there are additional top 100 players that will be joining in the last two weeks. However, based on conversations in this thread and the 2010 GT Academy standings, I think that there are maybe 2 or 3 more potential top 10 players that have yet to post a full time.

If anything, what you have to worry about are guys that put up a top time in week 1 and haven't touched them since. They will probably be more "active" in rounds 2 and 3 when the cutoff is 8 instead of 128.

Oh yes! For sure! I know of at least one person that is one of my picks to win the whole thing, and hasn't posted a time since the first few days. :)

I haven't even selected GT Academy within the game since I was last active in week 2. Was thinking of going back to it to see if I could get back near the top, but I feel like it might be too much effort since I'm no longer warmed up on any of the combos. :nervous:

Who is it? Ferris? I can't think of anyone else in the top 5-10 range, although I'm not really "in" with the top GT players so I don't really know who's out there.

What's the point of you trying to get back to the top? You already got the playseat, dfgt, and poster ($10 value). Trying to get a sub 2:45 just consumes your soul. Just play around with the GT Academy version of the GT-R so you can kill it AGAIN in round 2.

I'd prefer to leave him his anonymity amongst those who aren't familiar with him. I might not want a spotlight either if I were in his shoes. :)

Bad news for us though- he's in the Northeast as well

My thinking as well! :)

I think I'll just wait 'til the combos are announced and then go for it. Thanks for the good wishes man, the same to you

I hope you claim a Playseat as well! 👍

I know! And Mr. Z is a great racer as well as TT'er. 👍
Also, it's kind of weird how some are .5 off in every combo. :sly:

Sheesh! Why do some of the best guys have to be in the Northeast region? It's making my life too difficult :)

Just put in a few more hours last night. Did a 48.9 Sector 1 on cape, but blew the last sector and coasted to a 2'46.4. I can already see the mid-high 2'45's coming, which is another steady improvement given my seat time so far. I also ran Tsukuba for the first time since like day 2 or 3 and put down a 1'05.5 in like 7 laps. I can see a 1'05.2 there for me very soon also. That was good enough to hoist me back to 10th place overall in the Northeast for the first time since day 2 :) I really have had a blast thus far, and my simulator skills are really beginning to improve. Round's 2 and 3 will be VERY hotly contested....

I know several in the se alone that are certain that their time will hold up through round one, Me included. I have put in 2 hours total since dec 20 and I am in top 30ish in se. I don't have the time to put in a lot extra time towards it. More effort will be put into the following rounds.

Northeast is stacked - I can't wait for z06fun, ferris, and your sleeper favorite to push me back a spot in the next rounds :banghead: Hopefully it's enough to score the trip to Orlando.

I hope I claim a Playseat too...but unlike you, I have more work to do to secure mine.

I'm about 1/4 second from this week's playseat, which is a decent chunk of time. And that assumes that Hunk is done, which...he probably isn't. I AM in line for the 5th playseat, but there's another 12 days between now and then, and I have 3 guys behind me within 0.35 seconds.

...so I will be giving up a part of myself to try to get that 2:44 at Cape Ring. Since I haven't touched Tsukuba in 10 days, it'll take 100 laps there to get my rhythm back and score a 1:05.0. Then I'll roll the dice and try to win the lottery at Rome by hitting the kink perfectly. All that to get a setup I don't really have space for, but for some reason I REALLY want it.

- I just wish I could have been running my current times when 2:46 was still considered alien territory, but alas, I'm a slow learner.

Apart from endless PS3 friend requests, not much changes :)

+1

blindside, I'll keep running until I win! I have a 2:44.6 in me at Cape. On my PB I totally effed up the second sector, but for some reason instead of restarting I just kept going, and of course I ended up nailing the last part of the lap. Always seems to happen that way. =/

I can take .100 off Tsuk and probably .100-.200 off Rome, so Id like to think I could get into the 5:10's if need be. Ill probably wait until the end of the week to hit it hard though.

Greetings everyone:)

yeah, the SE does seem the easiest, huh? I would've thought the opposite as we have all the massively talented Brazillians in Miami, but perhaps they don't qualify as U.S. Citizens so they arn't showing up? (though, realistically the competition is actually very tight no matter where your from)

I have had a crazy travel schedule the past few weeks & the end of 2010 marked an extremely long(sad) years away from racing games (so i'm shaking much rust-off)So I figured in the short bursts of time I've had, I would focus on one track/car and understand the physics a lil better first and just ease back in to it.

Really impressed with the game!BTW and the super talented field of drivers!

I return home this weekend and I hope to have more time to focus my efforts for the duration of Round 1

Look forward to meeting any and all of you on-line as well
Best of Luck to all of you guys (gals?) :)

West is pretty bad too! I think SE is the division that is probably easiest to get top 8 from what I have been seeing people post here.

If you goto the us.gran-turismo.com site you can see rankings for all regions. Midwest is the big softy... as of a few days ago you'd be top5 with a 5:14 and only one person in club 5:11.

The guy you are referring to happens to be from my hometown, in MASSACHUSETTS...so not even really from the Midwest...

There is chiefdnd who is constantly improving, now at a 5:11.7...battling for the last 2 playseats.

I wouldn't call it big softy.

The region strength based on 128th place time

#1) West @ 5.17.7
#2) SE @ 5.18.8
#3) NE @ 5.18.9
#4) MW@ 5.19.3

It shows that the regions are a lot closer than some realize.

If you just use the top 8 from each you can see the big softy.:dopey: It seems to be a good time to relocate to the Midwest for some people.

NE - 5:12:9
W - 5:13:3
SE - 5:13:6
MW - 5:14:0

wow, i cannot believe that my region is being called the 'softy' region. you people have to take the numbers of gamers (or even the number of states) into account before determining which region is the 'softy' region. if i could remember, we have 9 states in the midwest compared to the northeast's 14 states and we're only like what, .4 behind the northeast region? (128th place time)

@slaphappyfranky i would wait until the times of the actual top 8 in the round three because of the round's duration and how many people are going to qualify for national finals. people are definitely going to be scrambling to get those lap times come round 3 to get through the final 8 as opposed to round 1 getting through the top 128

anyways, i'm not even going to talk smack about people's regions because i'm prolly 'not qualified' because i'm 68th in midwest for round 1 right?
