Pater noster, qui es in caelis
Sanctificetur nomen tuum;
Adveniat regnum tuum.
Fiat voluntas tua
Sicut in caelo et in terra
Panem nostrum quotidianum da nobis hodie.
Et dimitte nobis debita nostra,
Sicut et nos dimittimus debitoribus nostris.
Et ne nos inducas in tentationem;
Sed libera nos a malo.
[Quoniam tibi est regnum et potestas et gloria in saecula.]
Amen.

Latin hasn't changed because it is a dead language. There is no reason to change the spelling/grammar/syntax because it is not used like modern languages, that is, in everyday conversation/communication.

No one alive to day, or indeed since the times of the Roman Empire has ever heard Latin spoken, so there is some debate among scholars as to the pronunciation of certain words and letter combinations. Overall, Latin is primarily a tool of the written word for scholars, lawyers, doctors, and scientists.

Hi NoQuarter.

Thanks for the reply. I could see why Latin has changed very little during the past millenium. I guess I was sort of freaked out when I saw the article on Wikipedia about the evolution of the Latin language. There were so many varieties, such as Middle Latin and New Latin.

On a seperate note, I must admit, Latin is a very hard language. There are so many complicated inflections and false cognates. The grammar and syntax are very different from English. My friend says that the grammar is supposed to be "logical", whatever that means.

Cheers.
