A while back somebody said they got 1:10.XXX on SS Rt. 5 in the Elise GT1, fully modified. So I tried it out. All I can say is that is amazing. I cannot get that car to behave no matter what I try. It just doesn't have any grip, like it's on ice. I use maximum downforce, supersoft tires, and all sorts of different suspension configurations. Nothing works.

Also (and I don't know if this is a glitch or not), I am unable to adjust the stabilizers. I can bring up the slider bars to click left or right, but there are no sliders, just the bars, nothing to adjust. Is this right?

The car looks awesome and judging by the power to weight ratio it really should be a great car. I'd love to bring it into my regular rotation but not if I can't get it to behave.

I forget what settings are on mine, but it handles perfectly. I do remember the rear suspension is set on 10's. I think the camber was 1.8/1.3...and of course the downforce is set to highest. Ride height is set lowest all around.

I love that car! It's one of my favorites, right after the GT40. I remember that with no changes but super soft tires, I was able to run 49 seconds on Tahiti Road. Closest I've gotten since was 51.xxx though, with lots of room for improvement.

Other favorites:

GT90
Motorsports Elise
Other assorted mid engined cars that other people can't seem to drive ;)

I try the GT 90 from time to time but don't like it. The sound, the look, and it spins out to easily.

I like the Motorsport Elise though, and any other Elise, too.

In fact I like mid-engine a lot. It's just the GT1 I haven't figured out yet.

Suspension settings would be a big help.

Controlling the GT1 is not a problem really you just need to get used to the way the car handles thats all, yet i can't help you on the suspension. :(

I used some bizzare suspension arrangement with the Elise GT1, and now, it's a lot more controllable. (But hardly the most controllable.) It took me about 3-4 hours of work, but since then, setting up almost any car has been a piece of cake in comparison.

My set-up really hates banked corners, so it keeps you on your toes. It is one very fast car once you get the hang of it.

I'll post my settings once I find which game save it's on...

Well I played around with it some more last night and a little determination went a long way. Thanks for the motivation. I drove it on SS Rt 5 and Apricot Hill.

For me and my set up there seems to be a trick that applies to MR cars in general but especially the GT1, accelerate through turns. I drove it sorta like I drive the Toyota GT One: hard brake, turn and wide open throttle, adjusted for the particular turn obviously. And it stuck to the road.

Funny thing with some of the MR's, if you turn while going fast the front tires seem to dig in and the rear swings out. But if you hit the gas it straightens out. More "feathering" of the controls than with most other cars.

Definitely not a GT1 pro, but at least I could drive it.

But nobody has answered my question about the stabilizer adjustment. Is your's permanently set to "1", too?

There's a few cars in the game that don't permit easy tuning.

'97 R390 Road Version (no stabilizer adjustments)
'98 R390 Road Version (no suspension adjustments)
Mini Cooper (no stabilizers)
VW Beetle GT (stabilizers only go up to 5)

Here's some basic guidelines on tuning my favorite car: (BTW, I was the one with the 1:10 on SSR5 :-D)

Springs: 20/18
Ride height: lowest/lowest
Dampers: 3/3/3/3.....once you get better with it, slowly move these up
Camber: 0/0
Toe: -20/20
Brakes: 18/12
Downforce: Max/max

Those are my basic settings for SSR5...For the dampers, once you start being able to control teh car, slowly move these up. I have mine at 8 right now, because I know the car real well.

Elise GT1 rules! Kick arse handly for an MR, sweet looks, love the engine note, can be race modified to kick the elises in there own little comp and can reach a pretty good top speed for 600+hp (fully modded).

Yeah, the Elise GT1 is actually easier to drive than the road-going Elises. The MS Elise is still on my short list of can't-get-it-to-handle-worth-a-darn GT2 cars.

But the GT90 is one misunderstood car by the masses; it handles wierd, but not absurd..very fun to drive! I love watching that crazy contraption in the replays...

BTW, the above URL works properly if you strip off the final period at the end.

Mid Engine cars can be made more stable by dropping the ride height as low as possible in back and 2 "clicks" higher in front.

Example, Rear = 60mm, Front = 62mm.

Tune the LSD a bit on the soft side.
