I remember when the Lotus Evora was added to GT5P, and I thought "what a dog." Then recently I saw one driver take it online, which got me thinking, maybe it's time to take the Evora back out of moth balls.
I've been focusing on the Expert Suzuka 550pp RD online event, and much to my surprise, the Evora has been quite competitive. It's advantage is its light weight, and Lotus suspension. The gearing, as everyone knows who's driven the Evora, is really tall in 4th, and 5th, forget 5th gear, you'll never use it. I'm still working on fine tuning the gearbox for Suzuka, but what I've done so far has been to shorten 4th all the way down and bring 2nd and 3rd up to get closer to 4th mid RPM range.
Most of the track is raced in 3rd and 4th, dropping to 2nd in 4 sections. I can power through the S's entirely in 3rd, I don't think I ever dropped below 80 mph.
One thing that grabbed me on my first time out was the Evora's incredible turn-in, which had me cutting corners really early. The Evora will grab all the inside rumble strips in Suzuka with the greatest of ease, and is also capable of outside passing! As long as you're mindful of oversteer, you can practically drive this car anywhere you want.
I had the greatest time seesawing back and forth with an NSX, and if I had just kept it on the road (there was a bee in my cockpit ), we could have kept that up all race long.
So far I've managed to lap in the low 2' 21's with S3 tires, but I'm sure in the right hands it should lap below 2' 20 easily. I can't wait to drive this car when I get my GT wheel.
So give the Evora a go, and let's here how it went.
Now go race!
