I sent Dapper a PM, I am trying to resolve this. The "hip check" earlier was an accident, I tried to get on the track cleanly but sand and RWD + high torque dont mix that well together. I wasn't aiming for anyone and didn't realise I hit EERS until the replay. The hit where I pushed EERS wide was not what I intended. I wanted to bump draft him so he alone would be going into the turn faster then normal not push him going into the turn. I was using the bumper cam so I was expecting the turn to come a bit later then it did as I could hardly see the track because his bumper was blocking my view. You would see that as soon as he braked, I tried to brake as fast as humanly possible right away. It was the in the heat of the moment and for that second I forgot about the physics of drafting. I didn't slow down to let him continue because earlier in the lap he spun me out and took my spot.

Anyways, we are talking it over now so sorry for making this public.

protip: always look at the replay before making accusations and assuming things about people.

Sorry to hear that. Hope he's feeling better. :(

Well, I tried to get as far up the standings as I could given where I started the race but a loss of control and a encounter with the wall on drivers right out of Turn 1 put a early crimp into my racing plans. As we went along, I was thinking maybe a single stop strategy past the half-way mark will leave me with more tire to use for the second half of the race. but after I pitted, I saw that I as a lap down from the leaders. This made me wonder if they did a pit stop as well. I shoulfd have figured I should be used to the handling of the 111R RM by now as I have used the 111R for the British Lightweights Seasonal event at Tsukuba earlier in the week.

:idea:As for Suzuka, maybe before the race we can do a 'class photo' before the race with the field lined up in the order they qualified against the wall in front of the pits like they do for the motorcycles before the start of the Suzuka 8 Hours race? I'm thinking this would be a good banner photo for our series. ;)

I actually took picture of all 16 cars that started yesterday on the grid I'll get those posted tonight.

Where can I get or watch the replay?

Wondering the same thing myself.

I can export the replay for you guys and post it as well.

I just thought I would give everyone a heads up regarding the prevalence of the draft at Suzuka. It is massive, immense, ginormous, and humongous not only on the straights but also in the corners. During the handful of practice races we ran last night it was not uncommon to see an additional 10 to 15 miles per hour at the end of the straights.

The effect of the draft on cornering speeds was enough to throw me out of rhythm on a number of occasions with an extra two or three miles per hour being enough of a speed differential to cause me to push wide into the grass and/or sand.

I recommend that everyone get a few practice races under their belt so come raceday we don't have a crash fest. 👍

^ I think we should have a dedicated part of practice session with everyone doing organized drafting with no overtaking.

I was going to post something like this. Going down the back straight, towards 130R, you can be a second behind somebody, get their draft, and pass them before you get to the final chicane.

It might be exciting to watch, but I don't want people flying off the track because they've never been in the draft before and don't know how much to adjust, so I completely agree/second with your last part.

I'll have a room tonight after I get home.

Hey guys. I work second shift so if anyone is up around 12:30 am i'm on most nights and need a drafting partner for some practice. I usually have my lounge open and practicing the next track. Also, 12 noon to 3 pm is good.

Let me know, thanks.

Same here, 2nd shift. I don't know if I'll be on tonight though. Might play some iRacing instead when I get home.

"an error has occurred. You have been signed out of PSN"

whaaa

:(

I'm still in the room, but I'm the only one online off my list of friends, save for just one more.
And while I was on the flying lap I noticed a little 'installing' icon in the lower right corner. I suspect the two are somehow connected.

Hmm, it's been real spotty for me too lately. Yesterday I tried practicing in a room I started up and i'd constantly be dropped mid-lap.

What times is everyone hitting up in ol' Suzuka btw?

Room from MULE's post above - closed.

Yesterday Brosif was running low 2:03s and I think he did high 2.02 in race, not sure how much draft was involved.

I am not sure about my race pace in the draft as I did pretty poor in the three or four practice races we ran the other night. We didn't start the races until around 11:30 PM and by that point I had had a little too much Suzuka (three straight hours) and I was making a costly mistake a lap. Dapper (EERS4YEARS) would be able to better tell race pace as he was throwing down consistently fast laps during his sweep of the practice races.

In practice, my fastest lap time was a 2:03.5 but I know that I can get into the 2:02s if I string it all together and tweak my setup a little bit more. There will probably be guys who are able to easily run 2:02s, possibly even 2:01s. But the accelerated tire wear I was experiencing when really pressing as compared to when I was running 2:04s-2:05s might dictate race pace more than anything.

At a length of 35 laps, this race will be very interesting from a tire strategy viewpoint with the possibility of one-stop, two-stop, and three-stop races. With my setup, a one-stop strategy might be a bit of a stretch but it all depends on what kind of pace I can run on worn tires. I also noticed that one or two slides where the tire temp goes red has a noticeable effect of tire wear.

I've been getting 2:05's right now, but I know there's tons of room for improvement, as while I like this track a lot, it's still not one of my best.

Also, I was messing around with the RM Silvia last night when Iwas booted from PSN. Man that car is fun.

It is really hard to tell, honestly. Tire wear is really an unknown for me, besides the race at Tsukuba.;) I think the tires are only good for 3 or 4 hot laps, and that's all I've run so far on one set of tires. Running 2'03's on fresh tires doesn't really mean much on lap 18.

Here's the RKM tune I used as a baseline. It makes the car pretty planted through out the dips and such in Suzuka so it's a good tune to start out to worry more about the track and not so much the over steer. You'll still need to be pretty careful on exits, but not as much as before.

hm, quite a bit of camber...
Thanks, will check it out.

Not making to the race this week though. Long weekend this side of the border.

Yeah I thought that too about the camber. I haven't tried lowering it to see what the difference is so it might be trivial. Other wise it's great.

And yeah it's the Fourth! I'm taking that Monday off work. Hopefully to get something worth while done like a BBQ or something cool.

If enough people have plans this weekend, should we push the race back until next week, or what?
