I had a fat PS3, it YLODed after about 4-5 years.

I never wanted to leave a console on overnight after that. Especially after 2 XBoxes.

Though I can see why this is something we all want to do because of how ridiculously low the earnings and car prices are in this game.

What I want to know is, how much more efficient is the PS3 slim compared to the old fatty? Is it more ylod proof?

It is definitely more efficient as far as energy consumption and keeping cool. So I think it is safe to say it is slightly more safe. The key to keeping any console lasting is to keep it well ventilated, and try to move it as little as possible. Things break when the PS3 overheats or when there is physical stress. As long as you are taking care so that the PS3 isn't in a place where it can't breath and that there isn't to much dust collection, you shouldn't worry to much.

I got a fatty 60gb since launch day and never had any problems so far and believe me, the thing is alwaus running... Media centre, dvds, blurays, games, etc.

Make sure to give the PS3 a good blast of air to clean out its internals every now and then, and keep it in an open area, and you should be okay.

My slim is prop'ed up with wine cork cut in half on each corner, about almost an inch or less to elevate it in an open area, i check it every morning when i wake up, as cool as ice :)
