Love the feel but can't believe the frame rate at times.

Coming from Forza I have to say I am very impressed with how GT6 feels. With a Fanatec at least I can say that you feel the car a lot more in GT6 with no tweaks what so ever. I skipped GT5 and was wondering if it has the same issues. Did Gt5 improve over time with patches ? Does anyone expect Gt6 to improve it's performance with patches ? I hope so because this game has incredible potential but for someone like me that is very sensitive to frame rate it is tough to get immersed.

Fair enough.Hopefully if a patch to enable 3D is due for GT6, then there is enough muscle to improve frame rates. I have to say though that I find any drops in performance less jarring than in GT5. I am not far into it however, 12 cars on a track is the most competitors I have raced, I think, and I do notice some screen tear and frame rate drops.

I hope they do. Not trying to hate on the game. In fact, I am trying to love it. I am just really confused in the GFX department. I know that PD makes a great sim however I feel their GFX engine if handled my someone like Naughty Dog would have turned out much better. I know the PS3 can do better. I think they were blinded my the 1080p goal when they should have just went for 720P with as much anti-aliasing as they could manage. An option to lock the game to 30 would be fine. It is the inconsistency that pulls me out of the game. Here's to hoping.

I agree. At times, the game actually looks pretty damn good though (for a PS3 game). Really hoping they patch things up quickly. So far they seem to be on top of things.

I'm really holding out hope that PD is still working on optimizations and will release an update sometime soon that improves performance some more. I know they did improve GT5 along the way after initial release so there is precedent.

I think GT6 is sublime at times (take a caterham out and run laps at dawn or late afternoon at Nurby using the cockpit cam...sheer bliss) but some tracks are tough to enjoy due to poor performance (Bathurst)...

FPS is a issue indeed. It destroys the immersion. Especialy makes watching replays a joke. Watching the ars stutter by is just not cool.

Sony has some great teams, like ND. But I do not agree any of them could get more from PS3 or a GT title. I honestly believe that Polyphony are the most competent developer in the PlayStation arsenal.
I actually think Kojima Productions are better than ND, and Santa Monica. MGS, one shot at PS3 vs Uncharted and TLOU. ND's 4 titles improved technically each time, water and smoke in U2, sand in U3, amazing, simply amazing achievements.
But MGS4 was a visual teat, and the wealth of game play exceeds even TLOU. Things such as enemy AI and a dynamic battle field were ultimately a let down, but as a whole, MGS stands with Sony's best. I am expecting big things from the 'Fox Engine'.

In my humble opinion.

Kids these days...

Frame rate is super most of the time.

If you have a hard time being immersed here, you should have played F1GP on the Amiga. 7fps.

Untick 1080i and 1080p in display settings under XMB, this forces the GT6 to display in 720p, use hood cam or bumper cam for more stable frame rate, disable music during races and replay, and pick flicker reduction under display option in game, these settings helps a lot. Also increase brightness/exposure to at least +0.3 or +0.4 if you feel cockpit cam is too dark.

But this is not the Amiga, and just becourse old titles ran at 7fps we should accept low fps now too? No sir.
I honestly think GT5 was maxed out enough and they didn't have to increase the graphics that much. Now they are pushing the PS3 beyond it's capabilities and that shows.
Especialy since you cannot lower settings like you can on a pc i think it is really importand they make sure the game runs smooth at all times. I don't know if you watched allot of replays on various tracks with premium cars, becourse if you did then you would see how serious the fps drops are at times.
I love to watch replays, and i honestly find the drops very anoying, just like it would be when watching a race on TV and the framerate drops. It just sucks the immerion right out.

When racing there is not too much fps drop, maybe some on Badhurst in the hilly section, and when dust gtets kicked up.

Quite.

I was being facetious.

I think for the OP to say its so bad that he can't even get immersed in the game, is completely OTT.

It isnt all bad all of the time. Mostly it is pretty good. It only takes a few seconds of frame drop to pull you out. Some are more sensitive to it that others. I have always been sensitive to fluctuations and just an option to lock it at 30 would make me happy. A racing game needs to have a dead locked framerate. Every time a car kicks up a little dust it takes a hit. That is just not acceptable by any modern standard. I still dig the game I just wish it was stable at 60 or even 30 ! I tried 720p. The frame rate is a little better but also a little worse in some places however you can cut yourself on the jaggies at 720p. I have a 60" screen and 720p just looks arse. I loved the Amiga BTW. Stunt Car Racer was awesome.
