I am new to these forums but have been reading as much as I can and learning a lot from you guys. Thank you for that

Eventually, I would love to join you online and race with people all over the world but I will not try to race online until I can successfully get the clean race bonus, the majority of the time, when I play this game off line. I don't think it would be fair to go online without learning that first

That said, I'm having trouble with clean race bonuses against the cpu and I was hoping u could help me.

I know not to hit a car from behind and I know not to push a car from the side.

If I am pushed off the road, and hit a guardrail, is that still considered my fault and that is what's causing me to lose the clean race bonus?

Also, how do I handle when the CPU cars suddenly hit their brakes and I can't respond quick enough? Is that just a matter of me being too close, as in real world driving?

If the CPU car makes contact with me, I seem to also lose the clean race bonus. Does this imply that I put myself in a bad position or that I've unfairly blocked the CPU car from the line that was rightfully theirs?

My other question is about the yellow flag and not passing:

I have passed the actual car that was in the accident or hit the rail and have not been penalized. Does the penalty only kick in if you pass a healthy car that still on the track?

If I go off the road, but do not hit a wall or a guard wheel, is it considered enough of an infraction to lose the clean race bonus?

If there is a guide to offline clean racing, please, would you point me to it? Thank you

Contact with other vehicles or walls, four wheels leaving the track, or disobeying race flags usually leads to not getting a clean race bonus. It doesn't appear to matter if you are the aggressor or not. The system is not 100% accurate though. I've been awarded clean race bonus at times when I was sure I wouldn't be. The AI are slow through the corners which can surprise people as they are learning. My advice would be to do the campaign (everything except gt league). You'll pick up tips from watching the videos for each medal. Jump into sport mode as soon as you're comfortable. You'll be matched with people of similar skill. The AI in gt league and arcade mode doesn't really prepare you for racing real people.

Don't treat the AI like a real person. Treat them like moving obstacles that won't use a proper racing line (they tend to wonder across the track semi blocking) and will almost definitely brake hard at the apex of a corner. You must not touch any other car or barrier regardless of who's fault contact may be.

I think if you go off road but don't incur a penalty, you still get a clean race but I'm not 100% sure. If you run onto the grass, try to get back on track asap before the next corner.

The biggest thing with online is understanding racing a bit. Knowing that trying to over take thru a chicane is a bad idea, if someone has to fall in line, it might as well be you. IE Dragons tail. Knowing when to overtake is the key to clean racing. If your not at least past the other racers door, you don't have a shot and will probably get hit since they won't see you. Sometimes just catching up to someone is enough to pressure them into making a mistake and you get a clean shot to get by. Fall inline if needed make a clean corner get them on the exit.

Using your radar is also key to know where the other racers are. Just jump into online and start making some laps. You will learn quickly where you can and can not pass someone.

Good luck buddy

The best thing to do with the AI is to take your time and be patient. Think twice about going for any half chance and always leave them room. They're usually well behaved but if you take some track off them with a surprise move, they'll often mess up and hit you. Much the same as online so a good ground rule to practice.

Once you reach 1st, don't battle with the secretly equipped NOS car in 2nd. Use patience and build a lead in the corners as the AI are hopeless when they go over their limit trying to catch you. It's actually worth keeping them in your mirror for entertainment's sake...

...and welcome to GTP.:gtpflag:

Welcome! :gtpflag:

A tip that helped me learning to drive with others... Until you race with people you know or trust from a driving perspective, don't drive directly behind them. Line up off to one side or the other when you start to get close. Yeah you'll kill your draft but you also won't end up in their bumper when they brake or slow unexpectedly. I usually go to the side that is the outside for the next corner as I find it easier to go outside cleanly than hope I don't divebomb from the inside.

Be good, don't be bad. That's all you need to know. (according to PD)

Always race with radar on and leave room for the other cars. Plan ahead when behind a group, brake a little early as not to draft into them. Tap your brakes first or don't immediately brake at maximum if there's a car behind you. Keep an eye out when you do brake hard in case the car behind you started braking too late. Plan an escape route in case you start braking too late. Outside is better than diving inside. Don't be the one that simply runs into the back of the car in front.

Keep an eye on the lag indication when behind cars. Yellow means you'll see their brake lights later, and also see them slow down and turn in later than they actually do. Overtaking a laggy car on the outside is risky and they tend to drift to the outside even though in their game they hold their line.

As for the AI, keep your distance. They are quite slow in corners and often brake at the apex. It's safer to pass them on the outside but be careful as they'll come back to edge after the corner. It's better to let the AI pass when they go in boost mode after passing them. They'll slow down again later.

You still get the clean race bonus with minor side to side contact so not all is lost when the AI drives into you. Leaving the track is usually game over.

The best tips i can give you starting out is learning all the tracks with braking zones and racing lines.
When you start out and are grouped with all the drunk drivers that are messing around in the lower brackets don't trust that ANYONE knows the lines or the zones. Keep at least two and a half car lengths to the car in front of you so you dont ram his ass when he brakes to early, bound to happen. If you feel someone behind you are impatient and you are afraid he will end up ramming you in an bad overtake, find the right opportunity to let him pass you safely, or you will stress to much about it and forget to break when you have to.
You will rank up fast and get grouped with better racers in no time, get comfortable racing against real humans and you will learn quickly just by getting more experience.

Try some races in open lobby's first if you are scared to **** up someones Sport races.

Most important thing!

HAVE FUN! Dont stress and think to much about failing  it's a game after all

PS. You are ready for online racing, jump with both feet in, i believe in you! :embarrassed:

Do the Driving School and Circuit Experience rather than GT League.

And start racing online ASAP as it is a different animal to racing offline. In the beginning I used to do a couple of races, then do some Campaign, do some races, do some campaign etc. for some variety. The longer you wait to start entering Sport races, the harder it will be as you will be used tom racing against the AI
