Those are specifically for use with a larger diameter steering wheel (think racing wheel or real wheel sized), I have another type (along with a sparco 350mm wheel) and they are simply larger so that you can still reach the paddles with the larger diameter wheel, and mine also brings the paddle closer to your chest to account for the adapter used to mount the sparco wheel.

If you don't put a larger wheel on it will likely be difficult use these paddles.

If your looking to gain some tenths look into the brake mods available (unless you've already done that) they offer the best bang for the buck and performance improvement.

Many thanks for the reply. At least I know what they are used for now.

I was hoping that they would have been useful for shifting in corners to avoid wheelspin as I cannot always reach the standard ones and I have hand brake and reverse mapped to my gear stick. It can be annoying trying to contort my hands to reach the paddles.

I don't think they'd make me any quicker as to do that I'd have to replace the entire unit behind the wheel. ;)
