hey guys

just wondering what are your guys first modifications when you buy a new car? are they mainly for power or handling ? and also what mods are the main ones to keep a car in its class ? i think i done my 32 gtr so going to try a power package when i next get money at the moment on medium the ai is getting away from me and im no where close to any regional records let alone worlds just trying to get the competetive edge

thanks in advance

First upgrades I always check are the body kits and works conversion. All about the looks for me. :P Will check for handling after that though, brakes, tyres and suspension. Power comes last for me.

I usually start with full racing suspension so that I can tune it to my likeing, then tires, and then brakes... after that I start adding some power and taking some weight off the car... but most times I go straight to works...

Depends on the car. If it's one that handles well already, I go for more power. If it's not, I go for better handling.

I usually install the stage three suspension upgrades and brake upgrades first. Those usually add quite a bit of performance while increasing the performance index of the car only by a very small margin.
Afterwards, I go for the stage two gearbox. It will help to shave huge chunks of time off of your laptimes without increasing the PI too much. Then, I go for either stage three tyres or one of the bodykits, depending on how much I want to increase the PI of the car.

Bsically, I get all the adjustables firsst, aside from the LSD, as they have the biggest impact per performance point on a car, in my opinion.

I got right-to left:
Bodykit, weight reduction, interior, tyres, brakes, suspension, then I put drivetrain upgrades, and only THEN I start thinking about more HP.

This ensures that the car can handle any extra power.

thanks for the info guys

lrn2swm you and romknight are dominating my autolog lol i hope i can beat some of those times tho most of your guys times are faster than my countrys regional bests lol

Tyres and brakes first for me. Seems logical as the tyres are the only bit of the car in contact with the road, and the brakes are right next to them :D

Hope it helps and glad Judgment Day didn't take you guys out first :)

yea i stil need to get use to my new dfgt only had it for 3 days and got a regional best on donington national so far stil like 5 seconds off you tho and i havent set up my 34 properly just gave it tyres and maxed out on power lol got try a new tactic now

suspension, brakes and drive-train are the first things I buy. After that I try to stay inside the class limit while trying different combinations of bodykits, weight reductions tires and engine parts to get the most performance of a car. Sometimes I go for power others for handling (depends on the car)

Our times should be a motivation for you to get regional records then :D

See this is one part I dislike about Shift 2: Power upgrades are kinda pointless unless you're trying to beat the next guy on Autolog. Got beaten by the AI? Think upgrades will help? Well no, because the AI will always have a better car than you. Throwing power upgrades at your car will only make it worse because now your car is harder to drive.

Unless you have the worse car of the bunch... You can tell on the D class. I also remember doing an event with the Cobra where a little upgrade was enough for me to keep up on the straights.

But I actually never tested that theory. Maybe its a 50/50 situation. Also a reason to do events where all the cars are matched.

yea i have kinda noticed that but my 34 gtr had more power than ai in some races and other races i had a r8 just mowing me down and pulling away from me down the straits it was frustrating trying to win when i already had 997 pi and he was pulling away

I noticed that too. But I think it only happens if you keep on wining. I just repeat the race until the AI is dumbed down a bit but it'll always require me to drive with no mistakes to get 1st place.

I don't think one can always win on the first try at some events in this game (as in real life)

suspension, tires, brakes, intake, exhaust, turbo, then motor work.

^I always get the best, unless I'm trying to stay in a class then I'll do all the best I can then some lower grade upgrades to try and max out. Also rims and body kits are thrown in there.

This is not completely true.
Both my BMW M3 E30 and Corvette C6 (is it?) are usually better than the cars they are pitted at. They are both tuned to very close to the next class (B1490-B1499) and as such are 'top of their class'.
You are right that you cannot destroy the competition like you can in GT5, but the right car with the right upgrades can give you an edge over the competition.

Problem is that you have to find out which car to use. The PI system is nice, but far from flawless. So it is a bit of trial and error.

Just like in GT I usually first add bits that make my car 'tunable' (adjustable gearbox, suspension, brakes). Sometimes a few performance parts, but unless you're driving against one of the bosses, it's not really necessary for winning.
