Hello, Does anyone know if the Japan version of prologe can be "backed up"? I live in the USA and bought Prologue and the flip top, I am scared to death that I am going to scratch my new disk and have to send out for another (takes weeks and $$$$) anyway any advice would be helpful.

one word ILLEGAL
any form of copying protected software will be seen as intent to reproduce copies.

[EDIT] *for resale

I've got advice.

Make sure to always have the disc in a case if not in use. Don't use rough towels or cheap paper towels/napkins for cleaning. Don't let your little brother use it. Don't let your friend use it. Don't leave it in a cold or hot car. Follow these and you should have no problems with needing a backup.

Don't talk about it here 'cos it's against the AUP.

Can you not make a backup if you own the original, which he says he does?

The same way you can make a copy of a CD if you own it.

As long as it is not made for distribution purposes.

Making a back-up of the original is still illegal (at least in the UK it is.) The excuse is that you want to protect your original CD, then you should be able to copy it. The publisher says that if your disc gets stratched/broken, they will gladly replace it for you *

* For a massive fee of course.

I do own the original, I thought it was legal to make your own backups!? I am just afraid that my four year old will get a hold of it or my 12 year old son might scratch it sometime while loading or taking it out of the fliptop. I think it's perfectly fine to have my own back up. This is the reason for why they make a DVD burners and blank DVDR discs isn't it? I know it's a no no to make copys to re distribute but I asure you this is not my intentions. I don't even know If you can copy the game, that is the reason for my post. Isn't it kind of like recording a public broadcasted race off of T.V? I think I have seen something about rebroadcast and written consent to record or copy. We have all recorded stuff off of T.V has anyone been put in jail for this?

Actually...

Even Micromama says you can make a backup of your Windows CD, they even say you should.

It's legal, as long as he is really the owner.

Its not necessarily ILLIGAL. Burning CD's and then selling/giving them away is ILLEGAL. Okay, so tell me exactly what is so bad about backing up a CD you already own just to be safe nothing happens to it? See? Just trying to make that clear. ;)

Did I say it was bad? I only said it was illegal. There is a difference.

Example 1 - (In the UK) Ripping a CD that you own to MP3 format and copying them over onto your MP3 player for your own persoanl use is illegal too.

Example 2 - Driving at 31mph in a 30mph limit is illegal.

You are highly unlikely to get arrested for either of the above 2 examples, but they are both still illegal.

I prefer to use Stomp Recordnow MAX. It has worked with backing up my WRC II: Extreme.

You can get a trial version from searching on google, that's where I found it.

I think it's actually legal to make a backup in the US and Australia, as long as you have the original disc.

Thank you DtV, As to "Big Brother" sorry for posting this illegal post. I guess I need to pack my things before they haul me off to jail. I guess I might as well pull the tags off of my matresses as well.

Most the time you have a backup for things like importent files on your computer, so if your computer crashes or gets a worm virus, which is not unlikely, you will have safe protection of the data.
Now, if you are copying a game, and plan to use it, then that must mean you have had your PS2 "chipped". Unless someone has found a way to do it otherwise. I would have thought that a court of law, or at least Sony would see this "chip" as a sign that you plan to use burned games, of which you don't have the original in your possession.

That's what I was thinking.

Or maybe just to play PS2 games that aren't released in this region. Yes, you can actually buy imported games that are completely legal.

Seriously, what's the issue here? He wants to make a freakin backup, not sell copys on the street or something.

I guess I should of read the house rules a little better and I should have known not to ask that question. In the future I will make sure to follow the guidelines. Sorry.....
