I just read about this and I am still having thoughs about whether this is true or false.

STORY-

Car:
2003 Ferrari Enzo

Description:
Owner fried the clutch on this $650,000 car while driving in the middle of nowhere. He abandoned the car with the doors unlocked. A passerby saw the car and noticed that no one was nearby so he called the police. Since it is very rare to see an Enzo in Iceland, 10 policemen arrived at the scene.

Location:
Reykjavik, Iceland

Thats hard to believe, but some people are stupid enough to do things like that.

Man, the owner of the Enzo is an idiot!!! :dunce:

Even thou the car has a fried clutch, I still lock the car.

I think the owner just throws money away, lucky SOB. :grumpy:

Those are Iceland plates. But who fries the clutch on a $650,000 car? Don't you kind of have to buy the car with some knowledge of how to properly drive a manual transmission vehicle? And exactly why did he just park it? Was he going to go to Iceland Ferrari? Ferrari OnStar?

Rare in Iceland? I'd bet my life it's the only one.

I bet those Icelandics are good law-abiding citizens and leaving the old girl unlocked wouldn't have made any difference. A bit thick to do that to your Enzo's clutch though, I'll agree!

You have to be pretty thick to fry your car's clutch on a long straight like that. And what the hell are those decals on the side?

Take out the whole assembly and let it bake in the sun for a couple hours?

Exactly. You don't fry the clutch on an Enzo. The car has a sequential gearbox. It probably broke down for other reasons.... if the clutch is dead, then the car did it to itself.

Well, Im not sure how one can "fry" an F1 clutch, but I guess he pulled the wrong paddle with his foot on the gas and broke "something."

Oh, and about him leaving his car unlocked: This is ICELAND, people. How many people do you think would have driven down that road in the time it took for the police to arrive? Not many, Id guess. And out of those, how many would have criminal intentions (again, its Iceland)? Id say he's safe.

And, the decals were for a Supercar Rally across Europe that the Ferrari was participating in. Id take a fair guess that the owner is not a Ricer.

Spoke to a friend of mine who is the Parts Manager for a Ferrari dealership and he was not surprised by this.

The problem is the launch control system, it reduces the clutch life dramaticaly. To the point that Ferrari say that you will get approx. 6 'launches' from a single clutch.

Sounds like this cars owner had been out playing and burned the clutch right out, still does not explain why the mad-man did not lock the damn thing.

6? 6?! That's just plain absurd. BMW will warrant an SMG M3 up to 30 launches, and that's just a $60k car. You think half a million would buy you something sturdier. COUGH*ceramic*COUGH*clutch*COUGH*CarreraGT*

I know its insane, but that is apparently what Ferrari are stateing as 'wear and tear' when launch control is used.

It does make a lot of sense with the piece above; nice straight road, who would not want to try out the launch control, looks like the owner just did it one time to many.

Ferrari's got some balls selling a car meant for super-high performance (and at an exorbitant price) that can only handle 6 launches. That's crap.
