This happened right outside my sisters street...

http://www.kentonline.co.uk/dartfor...bruary/12/police_dealing_with_serious_in.aspx

A man has died from gunshot wounds in Dartford tonight.

Police have cordoned off part of the town after the shooting at about 8pm.

Officers are currently standing guard with Fulwich Road taped off from the junction with Great Queen Street and Overy Street.

A spokesman for Kent Police said: "Police were called to Overy Street in Dartford at 8pm this evening to a report that a man had been found injured in the street.

"The man, believed to be in his 30s, was taken to hospital with what is believed to be a gunshot wound but has since died of his injuries.

OK Dartford is in Kent, but it's essentially a suburb of London now. Unfortunate, but not as unlikely as if it had happened in Penshurst or Herne Bay.

I bet your sister was all over Facebook and Twitter with that one. ;)

Man shot dead in Kent? He was probably grateful of it.

From what I've heard, no. An acquaintance knew them, apparently a bit of a loser who always had a history of finding trouble before it found him.

That's horrible..they should really think about enacting more severe gun laws to prevent this kind of thing from happening in the future...wait...:ouch:

There is a reason this makes the papers. It doesn't happen often.

But that's for another thread.

Where I work, which is the scummier end of Liverpool, there have been three occasions in the last 18 months where I've been unable to get to my office because someone has been shot nearby. It's depressingly common around there, there must have been 3 or 4 shootings in the last year.

We did, that's why we get significantly less shootings than Americans do.
I guess I have to find the statistics that say that shootings haven't decreased since the ban in the UK.
Makes sense, since when do bans disarm criminals?

I totally can't be bothered with this, we shoot each other a lot less than Americans, look up what ever you want and post it in the guns thread.

First making a comment like this and then you put fingers into your ears singing lalala! because you don't want to be bothered with arguments that might challenge your views?

A round of applause for your open mind, sir!

Lol.

They shoot each other less, which they're proud of, but unwilling to talk about the fact their violent crime rate is higher than South Africa.

First? My post was a response to one that clearly mocked our gun laws, a post that I'd imagine you support the sentiment of, and whether or not I can bothered is not quite the point, I don't want to cover old Pro-Gun/Anti-Gun ground in YET another thread... there is a gun thread that covers this already, therefore my suggestion was to post this there.

Sorry dude, the OP is about a guy shot with a gun...so naturally people will talk about guns, gun laws...etc...can't stop that...

Maybe not, maybe you are right, our gun laws do not stop shootings from occuring as effectively as American ones do, maybe we'll continue to debate them in 4 threads at a time.

Argument? No. Discussion, yes.

Lol.

Citation?

Maybe if you don't want an argument about guns, you shouldn't make an argument about guns.

💡

Argument? No. Discussion, yes. Common theme occuring here.

Maybe you should follow your own suggestion, MatskiMonk?

Haven't seen a shred of evidence from your side showing that the UK has a higher ratio of gun crimes compared to the US.

A quick search, brings these up. Now I can't vouch for their accuarcy, but at least I have offered more than what Statler and Waldorf have.

Wikipedia gun crime by country

Murders with firearms

You may notice that the UK total is lower than the US and Austria. So, I would hazard a guess that even though we have the possibility of gun crime occuring, it is less likely to happen here than elsewhere.

Which is completely false. Due to the way our violent crime data is recorded, the statistics are not an accurate representation of violent crime in the U.K.

It's unfortunate it happened near your sisters home, but lets make a thread for every person that gets shot in the world why don't we.

Gun murders happen less than 100 times a year in England, so it's pretty unusual. Over here, people are shot and killed every day, to the tune of 12,000 a year. It's something you kind of expect to see on the news. Sad, but true.

Luckily such terrible events are so rare in the UK someone could start a thread on here for each and everyone and they'd barely be noticed.
