All the way up to this point i have driven automatic, whether it be drifting or gripping ( i do occasionally drive manual grip for fun but im pretty newb XD) and on this board i see that most people go manual for drift. Im going to try to learn manual drifting, so would it be easier to perfect manual gripping first before attempting drifting?

If you are perfecting grip driving you are not perfecting drifting, so if you are focusing on drifting you will drift, and if you focus on grip driving you will be fast.

With that said, if you have what it takes to be grip driving, drifting should be easier, yes. Should you perfect grip driving first? That's your choice :P

I personally would almost recommend you beat the game first - because drifting's quite addicting and fun, and after you start drifting, remembering the racing lines for grip driving is harder, so it's probably better to get all the grip driving out of the way first.

consistant grip skill is the foundation of consistant drift skill.

Manual drift, i drive auto but drift manual. Manual drift is easy cause you kinda feel how the car drifts diffrent on each gear. im hoping someone will give advice for msnual grip tho o.O

Learn to grip, even drag before drifting manual, that's how I did it in Forza and also GT5, as well as numerous other people that I've helped with it. It only takes a few days and then it's second nature.

Good luck. 👍

Edit: you shouldn't be shifting a whole lot while drifting anyways, depending on different factors you'll be spending a lot of time in a single gear, in my case, 4th for most tracks.

Grip lines x Drift lines. They are not exactly the same. If i take the outside way of the corner to play with the distance to the wall, ill not care about the "window" on the apex that can result on a overtake by my partner, its his choice if he want ot tandem or not.

Another think that is making me be sure how its counter productive is the situation of the front guy take the apex and his smoke blinds whos behind. If the front guy sometimes choose by ignore the apex, there will be more space for tandeming and less smoke blinding the behind folks.

Also, there are some competitions IRL that is focoused in the outside line only, so it must be agreed before the session starts.

About auto shift while drifting... well, you will need less than 3 minutes to notice that the automatic shift was not built to understand what gear is necessary to drift, because it was made thinking how to help the driver to race faster and lose the less grip as possible.

Manual shift have dozen of advantages, its a must for any drifter at any level of experience.

I sucked a gripping so I went to drifting and my life changed :dopey:

+1 👍 :ouch:

I started drifting with auto, and had lots of problems when drifting. When I changed to manual I forgot to change gear at the beginning, but after a while it was MUCH easier with manual. Unwanted gearchanges in a corner is not fun...
If you can´t decide what to do, get a Tesla 👍 :) It´s a good drift car

i think way back to gt3 i tried using AT for drifting but it sucked so bad, so ever since then, i been using MT, its easier to stay in the power band to keep the car going. :dopey:
