Manual Overide for AT users.

Playing GT last night with mates, most of them will use Manual gears now as I've beat it into them (no-one drives an automatic car in real life so why should they be using AT in the game :banghead:)

So naturally people were forgetting to change back to Manual and vise-versa for their race and this got me thinking. Remember in previous versions of GT you could hold R2 and prolong the next upshift? This was a great addition I felt and helped slower Auto users to hang on to the revs a bit longer when climbing hills etc..

I would like to see this included in full fat GT5 or even better, over-ride functionality for up and down ala GTR2/GTR Evo.

They used the trick in Tourist Trophy. it came in handy in there.

I save "automatic mode" for rally running (as i'm busy concentrating on not getting Time Penalties). I stopped using auto when they'd either shift too short (the low point of a gear is near the bloody Redline) or have an incredibly tall gearset (old Hondas, anything with 10k RPM redline starts, etc).

unfortunately, you guys inherited the American Prediliction for Automatics (for 20 years, we had nothing but). the various manufacturers seem to have geared everything to American Prefrences...pardon the pun

enjoy your sticks in real life. ours are confined to Sports Cars, Lorries, and the occasional tiny Asian car.

I personally think everyone should learn to drive with MT, it makes driving more rewarding.

EDIT: I agree though, the holding thing helped me to learn when i have to shift in GT3.
I still remember the first game i tried with MT was ToCA 2 on PS1, cockpit view, no HUD, MT, the hardest difficulty and i won all the races.
Was a bit proud of myself, i was 11-12 when i did that. lol

That sucks! Stick shifting is part of the human rights! :gtpflag:

After spending some time in America driving a different Ford every day I couldn't wait to get back to the UK for some heel-toe and rev matching. I'd actually found my feet had become lazy and had to work at it the first few times.

Forget it, tell your friends they need to start driving manual or they should start wearing a dress! (apologies to any female racers out there :P) Throw them in the deep end and let them figure it out, thats how I learnt to drive manual both in games and in real life (Dad gave me the keys and said lets go, I bunny hopped and stalled it several times, but after a little while it was fine ;)).

*chuckle* at least i STARTED riding in manuals. but by the time I finally got my licence, 15 years of slushboxes had passed. to find a Manual in a car, over here, you have to find a muscle era (there ARE exceptions, but as Phil said...they're all fords). for some reason, having a Stick is seen as "cheap". oh, and our lorries are losing their manual shifts.
