hey
I no this may not be the best forum to ask this question but worth a shot, i no there has got a be a few people out there who will know đź’ˇ
well anyway, my car, a Mark 4 VW golf 1.6SR (2000 / W reg). Had a problem where when idle or sometimes just starting the revs would rise and drop and sometimes cut out altogether (this became really annoying in traffic and at the lights) so I took it to a garage where they found a problem with a lambda sensor. Seams the engine didn’t always do this it did seam ok but the next day it happened again, but seamed worse, took me 3 or 4 attempts to get it started in a car park, so I took it back. This time they cleaned the throttle body. now this has help ALOT, it seems to idle at a higher RPM (was around 900 now its 1100 ish) but sometimes it’s still dipping and rising slightly, doesn’t cut out anymore though. I have noticed fairly bad fuel consumption but I have checked the tired pressures and they were fairly low so hopefully that can help that problem slightly.
So any ideas what else can be done? I was wondering if getting the fuel injectors cleaned might help? it’s about to hit 110,000 miles and it doesn’t look like the last owner did much work to it, when I picked it up the oil was thick and black so had to be changed quick.
Thanks in advance for any help.
