The Maserati MC12 GT1 is a GT1 racing car built for the FIA GT championship. It was built on the base of the Maserati MC12, a car based off the Ferrari Enzo, and uses a Maserati 6.0 V12. The MC12 GT1 debuted at the first round of the 2004 FIA GT at Monza by AF Corse, who were backed by Maserati, with 2 cars, although it was unable to score points due to it's debated homologation. It won it's first race at Oschersleben but did not score any points. At the final round at Zhuhai, the FIA finally allowed the MC12 to be homologated and 2 more teams entered the MC12 in the 2005 season, Vitaphone Racing (who previously used the Saleen S7-R) and JMB Racing (who previously used the Ferrari 550 Maranello). In 2005 Maserati won the Manufacture championship with almost double the points of Ferrari. In 2006 the only team using the MC12 was Vitaphone and they secured the teams championship for that season. Vitaphone continued to use the MC12 for the remainder of the FIA GT and even went on to dominate the FIA GT1 Championship from 2010.
