Hi all

So I have an idea that is truly an epic undertaking and I am hoping there are enough people out there to get it in motion.

In short it is an online 24hr Nurburgring enduro....

The thing is I would never expect any one person to drive for that long so here is what I propose:

12x teams of 4 people; that would be you and 3 friends working as a team against 11 other such teams from around the world.

Naturally you take it in shifts and work it like a real 24 hour race.

I think it is a brilliant idea and I would love to get it happening. I already have 3 friends willing to do it so one team is already formed :sly:

A few drinks and snacks would be the order of the day and I think if done properly it would be one hell of an achievement.

What say ye GTP community?

No interest at all?

I like the idea. Actually thought about some time ago. But that was before I knew of this forum. I know one other person i'd trust to team up.. So two man team could tech work

Good stuff cheers! a 2 man team would be tough but doable. Sleeping at the wheel would be a real danger but nothing a crate of redbull can't fix (sponsorship?) or a lot of coffee!!

I like the idea as well, just gonna be hard to find some team mates, I don't know anyone else who plays this game... But I'm in for it anyway, I guess I can simulate mechanical failure that would require several hours in the pit to fix, if I need some sleep ;)

There's a way to do this without having to have a group of people all playing on the same PS3 but instead having different people in different houses/countries on the same team. It's somewhat limiting and requires good coordination but I think it's possible, even though I haven't tested it. I don't think it would work with a 24hr race but could be done as 6hr's or 12hr's if you have a dedicated group (and would probably be better at la Sarthe because it's not as long).

The plan: you would have 7 teams each with 2 drivers (Driver 1 and Driver 2), each driver has his own PS3 and copy of GT5 running, everybody joins the lounge. Ideally team members would paint their cars identically (2 cars will essentially serve as the same car).

Firstly, you'd have to hold qualifying before the race and record the results so you can do a manual grid line up. You would set the race to 21 laps (for example) and everyone would go to the grid. When the race starts you will do a pace lap (hence the 1 extra lap) and have all the Driver 1's go to the front of the pack and get into their proper starting order. All the Driver 2's would go directly to the pits and hit pause so they can wait there until it's time for their stint. When the group of Driver 1's come around to the start/finish line the race will officially begin. Group 1 would do a 10 lap stint and come into the pits on lap 11 and hit pause, this is when Driver 2 for that team will enter the race for their stint.

When Driver 2 enters the track their lap count will be at "2" even though the first half of the field is on lap 11 (because they have been in the pits since lap 1). They will drive until their lap counter is at 11 and then pull into the pits and hit pause. Driver 1 for that team then takes his game off pause and returns to the track to start his second stint on "lap 12". They drive until their lap counter is at 21 and then pull into the pits before crossing the finish line, putting their game on pause. Driver 2 for that team then takes his game off pause and re-enters the track with his lap counter showing "lap 12" and drives the rest of the race, crossing the finish line on lap 21.

For the results you would only count the top 7 drivers on the results screen and the team that driver represents will be awarded that finishing position. The second half of the results would be discarded as they would represent Driver 1's who are in the pits. So there would only ever be 7 cars on the track at one time but would have 14 drivers represented. You could do 8 teams/16 drivers but usually full rooms create lag.

To do a longer race you'd obviously need a higher lap count than 21 but I used that because it was easy to break into groups and illustrate the point. It would require a bit of coordination among the group and people would have to keep an eye on their watches to know when their stint was coming up but it could be done, and could be epic. :sly:

I've actually been thinking of doing an event similar to this bro, I alluded to it earlier in CRAP thread, but not necessarily an enduro.

The teams aspect is where I was taking it & it would be teams according to nation of origin, say teams of 4 Aus, 4 USA, 4 Can etc. I've said a little too much already but I will announce detaiks soon in CRAP group :)

Good thinking mate, keep an eye on CRAP group page for more info soon :)

I'd love to do something like this but i don't think wifey would be too happy about me taking over the TV for 24 hours.

 This idea is INSANE, but I love it. If you could do it on a weekend, there's a chance I could field a team. I'll keep an eye on this thread.
Good luck getting it together.

Gents

I am closing this thread and postponing my enduro on account of this enduro as a) I will be competing in it and need to practice and b) it is pointless having 2x 24 hour events at the same track.

So the idea is to either shelve the plan until at least the end of Feb and then reopen it with the idea of switching to another track, likely Sarthe, or to seek espressions of interest in a 12 hour race at the ring... I think an annual 12 hour race would work well with the Wurks.ca crew but I will speak to them about it and try and get something worked out that will not impact on their event in any way.

So for now it is on hold but I highly recommend you check out the Wurks.ca link (again, it is here) and go over all of the documentation as it is important you read it prior to confirming your entry.

Any questions regarding my event please do not hesitate to let me know :)
