Mastretta Halts MXT Production Amidst “Negligent Management”
28 May 2014 by Jeff Perez

If you’re unfamiliar with the lovely MXT sportscar, all is forgiven. The Mastretta brand is a relative newcomer to the automotive world, and being the first automaker to hail from Mexico has been a challenge all its own. But things might have just gotten a bit worse.

According to a release the brand sent out earlier in the week, Mastretta has halted cited “clumsy, irresponsible and negligent management,” to which they will be restructuring the brand. During that time, the brand will be halting production of its MXT.

Except it has a Ford engine.

I commend these guys for their effort, but to call a car Mexican when the heart of the car [so to speak] is not makes no sense to me.

We have great engineers in this country, there's no excuse for it to have a foreign engine.

Don't misunderstand me, I think the car looks simply fantastic and I have the utmost respect for the guys that made it a reality. The engine thing does bother me though.

And Lotus uses Toyota engines. There's a lot of cars that have engines from other manufacturers. It doesn't mean that they're made completely by that country.

Yeah, that's not what I said at all. I think my point was clear and needs no further clarifying. It's my opinion.
