This thread is for speed records. All challenges are for the test track in the "Power and Speed" section. The idea is not who can get the highest overall speed (The 300 mph club has that covered... https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=69076&pp=20 ). This is to discover what specific vehicles can do.
My first challenge began with my own quest to break 200 mph in a 1970 Toyota Celica 1600GT (TA22). I have a soft spot for this little car because I actually own an American version from 1973 (currently awaiting the install of it's new engine). My initial runs were unsuccessful. After dozens of failed attempts, retries, and spins into the guardrail, I had yielded a max of 199.75 mph on my best attempt (and lost a lot of hair in the process).
Out of frustration, I gave up on my quest for some time. Until I eventually found my way to these forums and the 300 mph thread. Using some ideas and tips from it's members successes, I set out again. I smashed the 300 mph barrier (in a Toyota 88C-V Race Car... not the celica) I had added 60 mph to my former max in that vehicle!!
I applied these same ideas to my Celica quest. After many more attempts (as well as more retries, guardrail kisses and the loss of a little more hair) I finally cracked it!! 200.12!!!![Big Grin :D :D](/wp-content/themes/gtp16/images/smilies/biggrin.svg?v=3)
I was so excited I just dropped the controller, went outside and ran three miles! Literally!
As proud of this as I am, I know my settings are not perfect. I also had two dots left in my Nitrous-meter and was just edging into the red zone on rpm.
So... Here is the official challenge. Using a TA22 Celica (the 1970 model), what is the absolute max that can be reached. All runs must be one way (no going the wrong direction to extend your run). Tuning is unlimited (the car Maxes out at 209 HP anyway). All top speeds must be verified by a picture.
Sharing settings is encouraged but not required.
I'll post my settings and the verification picture as soon as I can (don't have a way of photographing the screen at the moment.... so my TV's not getting touched!)
If you don't already have the car, it is only sold in the Historic Showroom and is only available 6 times per 100 week cycle. It is always at or near the top of the Showroom.
1st in week 65 (beginning on day 455)
2nd in week 75 (beginning on day 525)
3rd in week 86 (beginning on day 602)
4th in week 88 (beginning on day 616)
5th in week 89 (beginning on day 623)
6th in week 91 (beginning on day 637)
Good luck to everyone!
