Its a sad day for Porsche fans across the world...

Leftlanenews.com
Production of the legendary $440,000 Porsche Carrera GT ended today (Saturday, May 6) at the Porsche plant Leipzig, Germany. Production began in September, 2003. A total of 1,270 units were built — 27 percent higher than the planned 1,000 units. A reported 53 percent of the cars went to the United States, 12 percent to Germany, and 7 percent to the United Arab Emirates. Porsche has not announced any plans for a follow-up to the 612 horsepower supercar.

...There are two Carrera GT's here in Grand Rapids, and I thought I was lucky just to see one at an auto show!

It is a sad day, but then again, it kind of belongs into the book of a supercar that the amount of cars being produced is limited. I just wonder what they will come up with next time.

Actually, I've never seen one on the open road, which is kind of odd, cause it is a german car. But I've seen a McLaren F1, so that's alright. :dopey:

I think it is funny that I've seen more Carrera GT's (on the street) than:

- Ford GT (none, and being in Michigan it is surprising)
- Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren
- Ferrari 612
- Aston DB9/V8 Vantage (only one Volante)

I think we should just have a minutes silence...... Noooooooooooooooo!!!

Oh well; it was bound to happen.

One thing I'd like to say though is that it was one of the greatest designed cars in Supercar history, the sound that engine put out was unbelievable and it set new standards for everything in it's class.

Although I myself have never seen one on the open-road (No, unless you live in South Melbourne or similar you'll only ever on extreme occasions find even a single car over $400,000) from what i've seen I better start saving up.

As for the successor for the Porsche Carrera GT (I vaguely remember Porsche mentioning something about this...) It's going to be extremely hard to improve upon ....

That was stupid, I think that the 911 and the Carrera GT were the two that made Porsche a real supercar maker. I also think that the Carrera GT increased the popularity of the already popular maker.

Porsche said as the cars were just hitting the streets that only 1500 were going to be made, and that was it. Quite frankly, we were lucky it even with into production whatsoever.

It will be an icon of the early 21st century when it comes to high performance cars, much like the 959 before it in the 1980s.

This is a sad day indeed...next to the Pagani Zonda the Carrera GT was my favorite hypercar--and to me the best looking super/hypercar ever. The sound this car makes is absolutely intoxicating. If I ever do get a few million dollars I WILL buy a Carrera GT.

I've seen 3 Ford GT's, 1 612, 1 SLR, and 2 DB9's but ZERO Carrera GT's.

Had to end sometime.

Now the 997 Turbo is getting close to the performance figures of the Carerra GT. :scared:

Say what? When was this?

Well I don't think it has been properly independently tested yet but according to this site and 5th gear (TV) it makes 0-60 in 3.8 with a top of 310kph

Thats damn fast, not to sure on how it handles yet but I bet it handles real nice. So its approaching CGT levels.

Huh. I'll be damned. Pretty good for a car that weighs as much as I've heard.

Arguably the nicest looking supercar....I always loved how it looks. Straight and streamlined. Looks better than Enzo, Veyron or SLR McLaren. I loved this car. Saw it once at auto show, probably will never see one again. R.I.P.

Cheer up guys.

The end of a line often means replacement.

Maybe not right now, but I wouldn't be too surprised to see another trillion mph car soon.

Yeah porsche have too much money to not spend. They will either buy some more of VAG or start on another super duper hyper car to trounce the enzo FXX

That little inertialess V-10 had such a charm too it.

Should be interesting to see what comes out next, but I'm more interested in a Cayman RS frankly.

Make room for a Porsche Carrera RSR, perhaps? I miss the 900-series designations; they were far cooler, although the Carrera designation's always has some prestige for the Porsche lineup.

I saw a yellow one back in November.

I think the Carrera GT is a great car and everything. But I've always thought that Porsche engineers held back somewhat. I mean if they can get a v6 to have 115hp/l (911 gt3), why can't they have a car that costs FOUR times as much turn out that much?

And I know that Porsche (lately) hasn't been known for their designs. But when the top speed of the Carrera GT is the same as the Ford GT. . . It's kinda like they were thinking, we have all this great technology and engineering that can blow everyone out of the water . . but we have to hold back.

And that's why I have a problem with it. I think Porsche can easily make the fastest (track + top speed) car easily, and they made it seem like they did with the Carrera GT was that car. But it still fell short.

i know for a fact that there is at least 1 Porsche Carrera GT because I saw one walking home from school. It was slowly cruising on the main road, damn fine car!

Near, but not there yet. The Carrera GT will leave a legacy to all Porsche. This car competed with the Enzo and SLR. Im 50.1% sure that they will make a next-gen super-supercar that competes with the Enzo, SLR, and every other supercar

Make sure you add in Koenigsegg and the Zonda while you're at it. After last nights Top Gear, the CCX pretty much left me with my mouth wide open the entire piece.

This maybe a bit off-topic here but just wanted your opinion:tup:

What is so good about the SLR Mclaren?

Although it has 601 hp under the hood, it has no hope against the Enzo or Carrera GT in terms on all-road perfromance; Braking, Turning. ETC.

Although, they always compare the SLR to a supercar?

Just a quick question though, thanks.
