Mazda RX-7 Type RZ (FD) '00 Cr. 19,990 Mileage: 29099.0miles
vs
Mazda RX-7 Type RS (FD) '00 Cr. 28,860 Mileage: 13001.2miles

Two very similar cars, one letter difference can make a world of a differece for the Mazda company. The RZ is the cheaper alternative, same year, same HP and Torque, only the mileage is more than the RS. But with its amount of miles driven, can it really be better than itself after a simple oil change. Let's find out.

The test consist of one 0-400m lap time, one lap time trial in two different tracks.
The cars have only been through an oil change since date of purchase, other than that nothing has been touched.

Las Vegas Drag Strip
RX-7 Type RZ 0'13.707
RX-7 Type RS 0'13.813
At the drag strip, both cars might look alike but, the RZ is definatley better at launch, the cars launch didnt raise the front of the car as much as the RS did, and also all shifts were a bit much quicker than the shifts in the RS. With the little difference in gear ratio the RZ is a better car in the 0-400m.

Note: After the Oil change the RZ gained 3 hp over the RS. The RZ had a 294hp rate while the RS had 291hp rate.

TIme Trials -- Autumn Ring Mini
RX-7 Type RZ 0'42.494
RX-7 Type RS 0'43.766
In this small track any car can feel agile, but the RS fails again in this test, the RS seemed to be havin' some dificulty in the first corner with some understeer, and the revs after each corner didnt feel fluent enough to know that the RZ is the same car. While the RZ keeps impressing me with suprises, the RZ seems more agile and the revs are perfect in every corner, the understeer in the first corner isnt present and it feels fun and great to drive the RZ even in a small track.

Time Trials -- Deep Forest
RX-7 Type RZ 1'29.368
RX-7 Type RS 1'29.426
This time trial was very close and scary. By now you might of read of the rev problems on the RS, but on a much bigger track and wider turns the RS is just the right car to push to its limits, this car is able to be pushed and take some risks along with you, but the RS is a much more hardcore than the RZ. In the other hand, the RZ is a much more easier car to drive, turns and revs work beutiful on this version of the RX-7, but unlike the RS, the RZ cannot be pushed through corners, the car would suffer through understeers and a bit of cornering speed loss, so the outcome of this test can only depend on the buyer. If you are out to have fun then the RZ is a much better recommendation since its a safer car to drive without trying to much, but if you are a daredevil and take many risks in a race the RS is for you, since the cars Cons add up when pushed and some how turn into positive energy towards you and the car. With a price difference and HP difference the RX-7 in general is just a letter away to have.👍

Whell, nice comparisation there,i thought that difference is in the car's stock equipment that comes with car!

I kinda agree with that, having tested those cars myself before choosing wich one to buy.
There's definitely a lot of improvement in the RX-7 over the years and while the first FD was very slippery and easy to power oversteer (effectively becoming my drift-learning car) I bought the RZ (newest), that seems a very balanced, firm suspension and nice revs from bottom up.

Anyways, the RX-7 is one of the best looking cars out there (you know when you see, it's not similar to any other car) and it's rotary engine makes a marvelous sound (the RX-8 tops that..).

Nice write-up dude!! 👍
