Mazda Furai unstable during hairpin turns

Hi, I'm a total noob in tuning, and I'd like to keep my Furai as stock as possible. I find it very difficult to drive at hairpins - its tail keep coming out even though it was going in at a reasonable speed. I did not accelerate or brake during the hairpin.

What are the minimum settings should I apply to my Furai to fix this?

Thanks!

I'm no expert at tuning, but you should start out with softer compound tires; they give more grip so that's a no brainer.

Suspension wise you could give the rear some toe in (towards the positive side). It'll give you a bit more grip as well (at least that's what i've heard). It works for me.

If you wanna re-tune the transmission you could always lengthen the powerband. Gear it longer so the powerband is higher up in the RPMs. You could user more throttle during the turns and since the power doesn't come on til the later RPMs, you'd be ok.

Then the easiest thing would be to ease into the throttle through hairpins, but i gues you've tried that already.

Thanks for your reply. Using better tyres will mitigate the problem but not solve it. I'd like to tackle the source directly. I suspect the stock suspension settings need to be tweaked. I'll try the rear toe in tweak.

The gear ratios are not relevant as I am not accelerating into the hairpin. There were no loss of traction due to excessive torque. The car glides smoothly into the hairpin and goes on with no braking or acceleration. I would expect any car to behave properly and stably. I don't think I should accelerate during a hairpin as that would make things worse.

ah i see, was thinking you were losing control out of turns.

I believe you could also try softening the rear suspension a bit.

sounds like camber or overly aggressive dampers. Is there a particular track you are testing on? I know that turn one at the Nurburg GP track needs extra ride height.

Thanks for all your suggestions! If you're free and kind enough, could you try the following:

- Stock Mazda Furai (stock settings and stock tyres)
- Grand Valley hairpin (Turn 6M)

Trying it out might let you understand the problem better. :) Does the tail spin out even when you're coasting through the hairpin smoothly? If so, how would you fix it? :)

that corner is evil. I think it has to do with quick changes in camber on the road. Try raising the decel if you cant handle the grip the front has. This will make the car understeer by not allowing the back tires to freely rotate during hard tight corners.

I would try softening the rear spring or rear bound, maybe both. Then brake a little earlier and feather the throttle through the apex of the turn to shift the weight to the rear axle. If this doesn't work then I would say your rear camber is too much or too little (both have the same side effect). If nothing works then I would say you have settings working against each other and need some reworking of the settings.
