Anyway

Derek Ringer, a former co-driver of Colins with whom he won the '95 championship will replace Grist for the final 2 rounds.

Relationship had been strained for a year, but parting is amicable.

Grist doesn't know what he'll do yet, but he says his decision doesn't mean he's quiting.

Ringer was released from his Mitsubishi contract, I do not know if that is related to the co-driver position with MCrae.

Wasn't there a rumour earlier in the year that they'd split?

There was, but this one does seem to be true. Especially since Autosport are carrying it.

Grist made a couple basic mistakes earlier in the year, and I think that was perhaps the straw that broke the camel's back, especially after Colin's 'misheard pacenote' in NZ.

Interesting that he should go back to Ringer though.

Oh, this time it's definitely on, no question - I hadn't heard of the NZ incident though.

Tell me - when did Grist and McRae come together - was it before Colin joined Ford? I was under the impression they came together under direction from Ford, to calm McRae down - but it might have been with Subaru.

i think they've been together since the Subaru days, but i could be wrong. McRae seems to be the most demanding from his co-driver amongst the current drivers, judging by the in-car footage... always complaining.

speaking of co-drivers, will Risto Mannisenmaki ever climb back in a rally car? haven't heard of his condition in a while.

Well the shunt in NZ was clearly because McRae was heading for a 2nd gear corner under the impression that it was a 4th gear corner, and was blaming it on mishearing a pace note. It was almost as if he was playing WRC!!!

Derek Ringer was fired by David Richards of Prodrive, so Grist was definitely a Subaru navigator.
