RM Sotheby’s Auction in Monterrey, California is due to take place between 13th and 15th August this year during the Car Week and they have some very special cars on offer like Bugatti Veyrons, a Ferrari Enzo and a Lamborghini Miura.

Among the cars listed for auction is this 1998 McLaren F1 with LM Specification. For those of you clued up about the F1 LM, McLaren made 5 of these vehicles in 1995 in honour of the 5 McLaren F1 GTRs that completed the Le Mans 24 Hour Race in the same year. The cars were based on the already rare McLaren F1 GTR but underwent few modifications like weight reduction, a new gearbox whereas it continued to sport the same 6.1L V12 engine as in the GTR.. The cars were producing 680BHP which was enough for a top speed of 225MPH and a 0-60MPH time of 3.9 seconds.

Further to these five examples, RM Sotheby’s states that McLaren also took two road legal McLaren F1s, and added the LM specifications to give them the same horsepower and one of them is supposed to go under the hammer in Monterrey. There isn’t a lot of detail about the car listed, however since this is one of only two cars ever built and modified by McLaren, it is an extremely rare one indeed. The new owner will be able to enjoy the Le Mans performance with an interior which is fit for road use.

...:odd: Wait, I'm confused here. So this is basically a F1 LM? Or is it a normal F1 that's been tweaked by McLaren post-purchase upto LM specs?

In either case, hasn't a F1 LM been suggested already?

@JKgo But this one has different colour and rims. And is way more rare and exclusive.
These things really matter IRL and makes the car special, but in a video game this car may be just a "waste of space" since these things you mentioned can be easily changed there.

Let's face it, this isn't recognised by McLaren as a stand alone model so it won't be in the game. It isn't officially called 'LM-specification' and really, it isn't a full LM spec in any case.

The one pictured is chassis #073 and the other car mentioned with the same specs in #018. They were supposedly purchased by Mansour Ojjeh (one of the major McLaren shareholders) and his brother Aziz and then transformed at some point later on into the spec you see here. #073 was originally a standard roadcar painted in AMG Green Velvet and #018 was originally standard and painted Midnight Blue Pearl. The rims on this aren't standard obviously, they were added later on and they're different to the normal OZ five spoke wheels (LM style) that most HDF kitted cars have.

They aren't LM's, they're standard roadcars with the HDF kit and the LM spec S70/2 engine but because nobody checks facts on the internet they'll be forever reported as F1 LM's which is seriously annoying.

This appears to be a regular F1 modded to LM spec. Since only two "LM-Spec" cars were built, this is even rarer than the actual LM.
