McLaren f1

Is the Mclaren F1 the fastest legal road car? I believe the stats are 240 Mph (391 kmph)

I remember telling me it was the most expensive road car too. Do you guys know of any other cars that have set records?

Currently, but I'm not sure...apparently the TVR Speed 12 Concept was supposedly claimed to blitz that speed at over 240 mph..

I think the McLaren is claimed at about 220-230 mph, although the dash goes up to 240 mph.

Fastest? No. The Bugatti 16/4 Veyron has a 736kW W16 that'll whip a McLaren F1. I don't believe it is the most expensive road car either. The new Ferrari Enzo costs $1,500,000 and the Mercedes Maybach limo costs more than that!

I heard that the CLK GTR from Mercedes actually cost about 1.1 million pounds, which is approximately 3 million AU dollars over here. The Maybach costs 2 million AU, and the Enzo costs 2million AU as well. :)

Well, I was close. The Bugatti 16/4 Veyron could whip the titties off these cars and it only costs $800,000 I heard.

The MClaren cost $1.1million. The CLK-GTR cost around $1.2 million. I haven't heard (till now) how much the Enzo costs, so I guess that one wins. But I thought the Maybach only cost around $500,000-$600,000?

Some facts.

Maximum Speed:
Stock McLaren F1 clocked at 241mph at Nardo.
TVR Speed 12 "claimed" 240mph.
Bugatti Veyron "claims" 250mph, but it's not in production yet.

Acceleration:
Ford RS200 Evo holds the world record at 3.06s for 0-60mph.
McLaren F1 clocked at 3.2s
Ferrari Enzo Ferrari (full name) clocked at 3.2s
Nothing on the Veyron yet...

Price:
Most expensive ever road car was a Ferrari 250 GTO which fetched $10 million at auction. Current value estimated at $7 million.
For new cars, the McLaren F1 was £625,000 list price.
The Ferrari Enzo Ferrari is sold to select customers for £480,000.

Some numbers on power outputs too:

Bugatti Veyron claims 986hp, making it the most powerful production car ever built, if it makes it.
The TVR Speed 12 puts out "at least" 800hp - however it broke TVRs dynomometer which has a ceiling of 800hp. Nuff said. It hasn't actually made it into production yet either.
The McLaren F1 throws out just over 600hp, so is the current holder of the "most powerful production car ever built" title.

The Guinness Book of Records notes that the Mercedes CLK-GTR LM road car is the most expensive list priced road car ever built, at £957,000.

Yay, I got the CLK right, just not the price...:embarrassed:

I think the Veyron has been claimed to hit 406 km/h...first ever production car to do that, from what i've heard, but obviously since it's not in production it hasn't been confirmed.

umm did it really cost that much? www.carclassic.com has some gtr's for sale but the roadster is the most expensive i think (havent checked for a while)
supersport looks good though, notice the pockets next the to steering wheel for your dvd remote control!!! :D

but none of that matters because both the enzo and clkgtr are paddle shifters and the f1 is a proper gearbox so it wins hands down.

intergalactic planetery!

Good call Alpha... :D

Nightmage... Taken from "Guinness World Records 2002":

Most Expensive Production Car
The world's most expensive car is the Mercedes-Benz CLK LM, which costs $1,547,620 (£957,093). It has a top speed of 320km/h (200mph) and can travel from 0-100km/h (62mph) in 3.8 seconds."

fair enough, but check out that website. the lm looks like the cheapest and the roadster the most expensive. either way, just a little over my current budget hehe, about £1m over! :D

mclarens...my expertise. the F1 is the fastest legal road car proven, as said in many sources. but when the dodge tomahawk is made into production(if it ever does...or ever becomes street legal), say bye to all other top speed records.

the Mclaren F1 has the official record of the fastest road car, the callaway is faster but has it been officially timed?

Thank you Famine for repeating yourself, some people here do not understand that just because a single car beat the McLaren that the F1 does in fact still hold the record for fastest production car.

I only repeat myself when my short term memory has a "blip". And even then I only repeat myself if my short term memory has a "blip". That can sometimes lead to me repeating myself though.

yes the callaway was officially timed, but like the guys say i isn't a production car. thats where the distinction lies. was just checking out the F1 LM, GOSH! thats one fast car, 0-60 in 2.8 and 0-100 in 8.5 or something? mental. however only 5 were produced so whether that counts as a true 'production' car i dunno. but as for top speeds yeah standard mac f1 is the fastest production car. but if you just want speed for next to no money get a suzuki hayabusa motorcycle and hit 220mph for under $10k/£7k :D
