ok what is the deal with this car..I thought that Mclaren would be able to put a small amount of beauty in their new car but no. I personally believe they could have done a better job on the looks especially. I havent found too much inffo about stats yet besides

Power 415.4 kw / 557.1 bhp @ 6500 rpm
Torque 720.0 nm / 531.0 ft lbs @ 4000 rpm

I suppose the stats are OK but the looks are all wrong

BRING BACK MCLAREN F1(remodel it)

EDIT go here for more info http://www.supercars.net/cars/1999@$Mercedes-Benz@$Vision%20SLR%20Conceptg.html

This Vision SLR is the begining of a joint project between DaimlerChrysler and McLaren Cars Ltd. The two companies have invested over 200 million Euros to make a supercar that will rival the McLaren F1. The SLR will reflect the heritage, philosophies and styling of Mercedes-Benz and will be produced utilising the latest state-of-the-art manufacturing techniques at the new TAG McLaren facilities currently under construction in Woking, England.

Through the concept of the Mercedes-Benz SLR, DaimlerChrysler and McLaren intend to ensure the transfer of technology and image from their successful Formula 1 partnership to series production, while at the same time reviving the myth of the Silver Arrows with this super sports car.

Prof. Jürgen Hubbert, the DaimlerChrysler board member responsible for Mercedes-Benz passenger cars: By designing and producing the Mercedes-Benz SLR, we will once again underline our globally leading position in the field of technical innovations. The Mercedes-Benz SLR is an incomparable combination of the brand's characteristic design, future-oriented innovation and unparalleled safety, quality and performance - in this way, it will become the benchmark for 21st Century sports cars. McLaren is the ideal partner for us to develop and produce the Mercedes-Benz SLR in close cooperation.

The fascinating bodywork design, clearly identifying the super sports car as a Mercedes-Benz, is characterised by the balanced integration of traditional and modern styling elements. The front section - with Mercedes' characteristic four-eye face-, arrow-shaped front and distinctive double wings at the lower tip of the front end - reflects the fascination of the current McLaren Mercedes Silver Arrow design.

I like the car and keeps in the Slk tradition of Mercedes.
No, its not a McLarenF1 and isnt supposed to be.
Its a beautifully built car for the person wanting luxory and performance in a great Mercedes body style.
Nice car and wouldnt mind owning one.

I heard that the car was gonna cost somewhere around $300,000 and that they will only make a certain number of them.

This is far from the nicest cars Mercedes has ever built, and far from Gordon Murray's best effort. He admitted that he was being constrained by the fact that this car actually has to make sales. Hopefully, he'll remember to ask for the help of a auto body car designer before he's through. The McLaren F1 turned out alright through wind tunnel testing, but this thing's getting worse with each iteration.

It's okay and very Crossfire-ish up until you get to the front wheels, where it all goes to hell. Too long and pointy, as if it's trying for a 0.20 Cd. It's not necessary. This isn't Ferrari (re: design-ugly Enzo). I even wonder how much negative lift those mirrors have. ;) But mechanically, Murray's the man to bring "super lightweight" back to the SL name.

engine is Mclaren Body is Merc. Another thought, they should make another one of these except make it look like a CLK-GTR or almost like it because at the moment the front is all wrong.

Anyone know when Mclaren ARE going to make a new car by themselves???

Probably never. Murray has said (I know, quoting a madman again) that the F1 road car was a unique experience...an experiment, almost. There's many books on the history of just this car (including the $1,000 one you get free with the car). McLaren is not just a car company, but a "high-end" company. They make watches, home theater equipment...all sorts of desireable stuff. The car was just one example of "high end" for them.

There's also the fact that Murray is so pig-headed in his belief of the F1 being the best, it may be another decades before materials and engine development moves forward enough for him to try and best his own work.

I only knew about the F1 road car for the longest time. I never put 2 & 2 together until the TAG-McLaren A/V gear. Last yearm there was a rather lengthy interview (in Widescreen Review) with the head of the then-new division. He talked about all sorts of stuff, including hiring Gordon Murray for the car, etc.. I'll try and dig up the exact month, but if you're a subscriber the article should be on their website. Uh, neat gear, though: http://www.tagmclaren.com/great/sounds.asp

The last bit about Murray not really wanting to try again (and the "futility" of the Bugatti Veryon) was in EVO #52.

Id swear this is the car Id seen a couple of nights ago.
If those are led tail lights and dual exhaust, it got to be it.
Being dark and with 20 percent tint on my car, it was really hard to tell.. Heh, I had to cruise at 100-105 to stay with it and to get a better look at it.
Let me know if they have these in the states.

The SLR is not quite done yet, at least not as of three months ago. The production mock-up isn't even scheduled at any upcoming auto shows. There is, however, the SL500 and AMG SL55, both in the US and elsewhere. From the rear, the new SL and SLR are kind of similar. This is partially due to the fact that both are derived from the same platform, and also that Mercedes is getting lazy in its detailing design. I mean, how many times can you use the same headlights and taillights? ;)

It could have been a test mule SLR. Otherwise, the SL would have been it. Dual-single exhaust means it's the SL500; dual-twin exhaust means it's the doolie SL55. Either way, neither would have trouble cruising at 100MPH+.

Yes, i have seen an SL55 AMG and those lights look exactly the same. It had a dual twin...and woah... I'm drooling over the keyboard again.

Thats the best looking Merc ever i can not wait when some one kits it mods it and tunes, it i think that will be in the British GT some time. Also i bet it will be, at Le Mans some time aswell.
