2005 Jeep® Hurricane - The Most Powerful, Capable Jeep 4x4 Ever!

That Jeep Gotta HEMI®?”
“Yea.....TWO!”

Show-stopping concepts and extreme expressions of the Chrysler Group brands aren't new: Dodge had its Tomahawk and Chrysler, the ME Four-Twelve. But when the Jeep® Hurricane blew onto the 2005 North American International Auto Show stage, it raised the bar for the Jeep brand.

“Jeep Hurricane is simply the most maneuverable, most capable and most powerful 4x4 ever built,” said Trevor Creed, Senior Vice President - Chrysler Group Design. “It pays homage to the extreme enthusiasts' Jeep vehicles in form and off-road capability, but is a unique interpretation of Jeep design. Simply stated, it is the extreme example for the Jeep brand.”

That has to be one of the ugliest things I've ever seen. Wonder what kind of power it has?

There are two 5.7-liter HEMI engines in the vehicle: one in the front and one in the back. Both engines deliver 335 horsepower and 370 lb-ft of torque - a total of 670 hp and 740 lb-ft of torque.

Wow two engines would be aweful for trying to off road. You want to get rid of the weight as much as you can. Chysler is building some pretty stupid stuff for its concepts right now, the Tomahawk was bad and the ME 4-12 was pointless. People just think its cool for some reason or another.

If you look at the other pics in that link, you'll see why they have the 2 engines. Its all built around the new transfer case system they designed (T-Box). That, and allowing the wheels to steer independent from each other, allows for some awesome possibilities. The car could spin in a circle around its center, or it could drive almost totally sideways at extreme angles. That could help a lot when in some tricky situations. Sure, the 2 engines add a good chunk to the weight, but its obviously just a design concept, so who cares. I'd love to drive it regardless. And, I'd love it if my Rubicon had 1 Hemi, let alone 2.

Very interesting (looks cool, too). I think if they could do that without the second engine there might be some market.
Of course, anything's better then the tomahawk.

Very interesting setup. What's wrong with testing new ideas on a concept vehicle?

Throw a gun turret on the back and you could call it a "Warthog."

(That's a Halo reference for those of you who aren't fans of the game)

Lmao, thats what I was just thinking!

Whoa your right! The question isn't what was the design team smokin' but rather what were they palyin'.

For, some reason I can now see some newb driver stuck doing 180 degree turns, and not knowing how to get out of them.......

I think some of you guys are thinking too hard about this. Many times, most of the time actually, concept cars are never intended to be built. This is obviously one of them. I mean, have you ever seen a production vehicle with 2 engines (hybrids not included)???? This is just a fun vehicle built to show off Jeeps new idea on a steering and transfer case combo. I mean, some of you guys claiming this car as the dumbest car ever built are acting like they intend to sell these. That will never happen. Its just a fun design and engineering study, built to show some new technology.
