Meet The PlayStation-Branded Porsche Models That Didn't Appear on the Console

The version in NFS Porsche Unleashed and the Forza titles(as a racecar) isn't the same model. It's the 1998 version, not the '97 featured in the article.

Was lucky to saw the GT1 (** mint **) and shoot it 3 years ago...

(Looks at the top right) So that's where Gran Turismo 2's car list went!

About if Porsche was going to be in GT from the start, I'm not sure. EA first gained the Porsche licence around 2000 with Porsche Unleashed right? Driving Emotion Type S from the same year has Porsches, so up to that point the licence was still attainable. Was the only problem holding GT1/GT2 back from having them Money related at that time?

The PlayStation/Gran Turismo sponsored Porsches weren't collaborations with Porsche, the collaboration was with Larbre Competition, who ran both that 911 GT1 and the 911 GT2 in 1998.

I would even go so far as to say the sponsorship was via Sony Europe, or at least their French division, as the cars only ran that livery in French races that year. In fact, the only real reason the GT2 car was painted in the livery was the fact that the GT1 failed to qualify for Le Mans, so they had to put their sponsorship somewhere.
