GTPlanet, I'm all over the place with this, am I? I figured I'd like to make my debut to the Hockey forums. I'm likely not to be in all the time, but the majority of material is all courtesy of College Sports TV. Now, when it comes to college hockey, for what I know, the Denver Pioneers are the defending National Champions.

"Ann Arbor Annihilation" Quinnipac at #8 Michigan
What do you think of when you hear hockey and Michigan? Well, you may think of the Detroit Red Wings. However, let's go some distance away from The Quinnipac Bobcats are a squad who are out of Hamden, Connecticut. The Michigan Wolverines are best known at "the Big House." Michigan extends their Big Ten sports excellence to the CCHA in hockey. And as it stands, Michigan is #8 in the nation. Michigan has over 8 or so National Titles and 22 trips to the "Frozen Four." Yost Ice Arena is home to Wolverines' hockey, matching up against the Quinnipac brand. Second period, and the Wolverines picked up a bigtime goal in a close skirmish at the Bobcats' goal. They connected again inside of 11 minutes in the second quarter in a 2-man advantage deal. Third period, and Quinnipac finally scores, but later Michigan gets another score to make it 3-1. Later on, a fight broke out putting two Wolverines and one Bobcat to the penalty boxes. If you love Michigan's fight song in football, you've heard this song at least three times. (3-1; MICHIGAN)

* #11 Maine at Air Force
Meet the Black Bears. The Black Bears is on the ice taking on the Air Force Falcons in the city of Orono, ME. I don't think falcons can walk on ice successfully, but if they can't, hey. There's a first for everything. So just lace 'em up, get your hockey stick, shut up, and play. You may not know where Orono, Maine is, but you'll know if you see a bus full of Air Force players going home accepting a big loss. (3-1; Maine)

"Purple Poison" Clarkson at Niagra
To New York we go, as we meet the Clarkson Golden Knights and the Niagara Purple Eagles. You basketball types may have heard of the Purple Eagles in the MAAC (Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) in basketball. As the game ended, the Golden Knights didn't look too golden trying to over the (6-3, NIAGARA)

"Hit 'em Where it Hurst" Mercyhurst at Michigan Tech
The Lakers of Mercyhurst had a chance to take on the Huskies of Michigan Tech. Both Mercyhurst and Michigan Tech are in the GLIAC (Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) in Division 2 football. (4-3; MICHIGAN TECH)

"Kings of Madison" St. Lawrence at #10 Wisconsin
Never heard of Saint Lawrence. But for what I know, they are nicknamed as the St. Lawrence Saints. Us people here in America know the Wisconsin Badgers pretty well whether it's action at Camp Randall Stadium or the Kohl Center. FSN North has the TV coverage as I was able to see some alternative TV coverage. In the second intermission, the Badgers looked bad, scoring only one goal against the Saints' two goals. But like the hearts of ranked teams, Wisconsin rallied from being behind to eventually take down the the Saints of St. Lawrence. (3-2; WISCONSIN)

"Cavity Protection" #16 UMass-Lowell at #18 Colgate
The University of Massachusetts-Lowell River Hawks met the Colgate Raiders. As it seems, the Massachusetts-Lowell boys were going on an undefeated streak last regular season. Now, they have some work to do. (6-2; COLGATE)

"Bem... Who?" Bemidji State at Minnesota-Duluth
Bemidji State University is a Division 2 school in football, but the Beavers are looking to extend their success against The University of Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs. The only way I know about Bemidji is because there was some rally racing in (then) the SCCA Pro Rally series, racing in Bemidji. Other than that, I have no idea about either of these two. Minnesota-Duluth is a ranked squad, so a Bulldogs loss is going to be an irregular heartbeat for the Minnesota-Duluth crew. The Badgers beat them by one in somewhat of an upset. (3-2; Bemidji State)

* Western Ontario at #5 Ohio State
Let hockey ring between Western Ontario and Michigan's most hated, Ohio State. The Buckeyes are looking to show the Canadians what hockey is all about. Seemingly, they did just that, downing the Mustangs in a big way. By the way, this is the first-ever score I've given to a team that isn't American. (6-1; OHIO STATE)

This was a nice one-off oppurtunity for me to you. Hope you enjoy.

<-----Michigan Hockey 10+ year season ticket holder!! GO BLUE!!!

The two games against Quinnipiac were better games than I had expected. As for being a team not so well known, they put up a good fight with two great goalies. Michigan has a young team this year with 11 freshman, but the majority of them are highly recruited, not to mention Jack Johnson who went #3 overall in the 05 NHL draft, he is very exciting to watch. Billy Sauer is an outstanding goalie for being 17 years old, and looks alot better already after two games than overrated Montoya.

I am excited for yet another season

I went to the Oakland University men's hockey game the other night, but its just not as intresting as the NHL. My girlfriend bought season tickets to the MSU hockey games so I'm guessing she'll drag me along to those.

Don't expect to see me do this every week like I do with college football, though. This was a one-off deal I wanted to come up with. Among others, I had to learn how to properly pronounce "Quinnipiac." It's more like Qui-nni-pi-ac. Other than that, nice for college hockey to be under way.

If I end up watching more, I'll get to learn a few more colleges and universities out there. Here are some universities and colleges I've heard of in college hockey: Boston College, University of Denver, Michigan, Wisconsin (of Madison), and that's about it really. Other than that, I've heard of Vermont, Maine, Air Force, Bemidji State, Alaska-Anchorage (host of the "Great Alaska Shootout" in college hoops), and stuff like that.

But, I hope you like college hockey with my one-off thread apart from college football talk.

You know, I have a correction to make. Saint Lawrence is NOT a Canadian school. In fact, it's in Canton, NY (I believe the city is). But still, congrats to Ohio State for their win on the ice.
