Today, Mercedes-Benz abandoned their famous AMG philosophy, with the release of the Mercedes-AMG SLC43. Although this car features the 362 hp, 3.0 V6 engine used in the 450 AMG line, it is badged as a full-blown AMG. If people were mad about AMG-Sport, this is going to cause a mess.

It's still got a very unfortunate butt.

It's too bad. Using "normal" engines in their cars is one of the last things I expected AMG to borrow from M.

Yeah the SLC replaces the SLK. I think it looks fine, but I'm disappointed that they are calling the SLC43 a full blown AMG. I don't see the issue with just calling it the SLC450 AMG like the rest of the cars featuring the engine, and then just keep the 55 AMG.

The entire AMG line-up has turbocharged engines these days so holding onto a dated 5.5 V8 would not fit in with engine portfolio. Furthermore, the SLK 55 AMG was barely selling.

I do agree with the naming structure though. I know it is relative to the engine output rather than engine size, but 43 seems like a number plucked out of thin air. Calling it the SLC 450 AMG-Sport would have made more sense but a few numbers and letters on the back should not be a deal breaker - It looks really good even without the AMG package:

Maybe this will lead us to more AMG versions in future like older E class. I think that one had like 3 or 4 AMG versions. Or R129 SL that had 73, highest AMG number

Like how the C6 ZR1 and Z06 LS7 and LS9 went from all being handbuilt by the best engine builders GM had in a purpose built craftsman facility to the C7 Z06 LT4 being built by robots under occasional supervision by some (probably) fat/drunk Buffalo Bills fan.

Maybe far fetched but possible source of the heat soak issues they ran into early on?
