The Mercedes-Benz SL (R230) was introduced at the 2001 Frankfurt Motor Show and replaced the R129 SL. It was first seen as a pace car for the 2001 German Grand Prix at Hockenheim. The SL500 went on sale in 2002 and used a 5.0 V8 engine producing 300HP and 460NM of torque. The SL500 was the best selling of all the SL's as the midrange model between the SL350 and the SL65 AMG and a big feature of the R230 was it's new metal folding roof which could go up or down in just 16 seconds.

The fact that we have the AMG version of this model is doing its best to shatter this suggestion to pieces... :ouch:

Ha-ha, sorry Jason, but I couldn't resist!

While the AMG SL55 may be more suited to GT, it would be nice if we got another non AMG car in GT.
