I was browsing wiki cars today and just out of the blue I decided to wiki the Merc CLS. I was looking at the drivetrain options that this car came with and to my amazement they listed this:

CLS 1000 - A 10.0 L V16, generating 450 kW (900 hp DIN), and 567 N·m (874 ft·lbf) at 7,400 rpm(Only Sold On Brighton Beach)

I have never heard of this version before or have ever seen pics of. Anyone else on GTP got more info on this car if it really does exist?

Yes, It does.

:p

Its a wiki, anyone can edit it.

Where because I haven't seen it either.

[EDIT] We're looking at different pages. You're on Wiki Cars and I think we were on Wikipedia...

So, a 10 liter engine that pulls the same BHP as the normal 6.0 Liter one? What a waste. Especially in the crap known as the CLS.

Two more things. Going by the naming system so far, 5.5L engine in SL55, 6.2L engine in CL63, an actual 10 litre CLS would probably be badged CLS 100. Also, since when was 450kw equal to 900hp?

So I'm guessing that this car doesn't exist and the entry was just made up by someone on wiki. Too bad, would have been interesting if such car existed.

Only if it an AMG will it be a CLS 100. Regular cars multiply the displacement by 100. For instance: 5.0L -> SL500, AMG tuned 5.5L ->SL55 AMG.

That MB 6.3 liter producing insane amounts of power in the SL63 is quad-turboed. Imagine what this thing could do if MB did that to this.

There isn't, its naturally aspirated. No MB engine is has quad turbos.

The Veyron does, but that is VAG.

How about a compromise?

wikipedia
2005 SL65 AMG
5-speed automatic transmission with AMG SpeedShift programming
AMG 8-piston composite calipers brakes
19 inch dual spoke AMG wheels
US$179,720
AMG-built twin-turbocharged 6.0 L (5,980cc) SOHC 36-valve V12 engine 612hp at 5500rpm while having an amazing 738lb torque.

:sly:

Ok yea, I was just going by the fact the if for some reason there was a 10L V16 CLS it would probably have been built by AMG.

Trust me, if it existed, you'd already have known about it.

You're probably thinking of the SL65, which is biturbo, not quad turbo.

Yes, yes I was. I got the SL part right. The 6.3 is in the CL, the four turbos are on the Veyron. That's a lot of information to keep straight, you know what I mean?

The 6.3 is in several AMG cars (notably not the CL, though - perhaps you're thinking of the CLK), and it's eventually going to be in all of them. It's a nice engine; I've seen some CLS63s and E63s, but nothing else as of yet. Here's an E63:

Wikipedia
The M156 is the first V8 automobile engine designed autonomously by Mercedes-Benz subsidiary Mercedes-AMG as previous AMG engines have always been based on original Mercedes engines. The engine was designed to be a naturally-aspirated racing unit, and will also be used in a number of high-performance "AMG"-badged Mercedes-Benz models.
The M156 displaces 6.2 L (6208 cc) and shares very little with other Mercedes-Benz engine families like the M155. The bore spacing, block design, and other features are unique to the AMG engine.
Although it displaces just 6.2 liters, the engine will be marketed as the "6.3" to commemorate the famed M100 used in the 300SEL 6.3.
The engine uses a 102.2 mm (4 in) bore and 94.6 mm (3.7 in) stroke. Output is 375 kW (503 hp) at 6800 rpm with 630 N·m (465 ft·lbf) of torque at 5200 rpm.
The engine however has been uprated to produce 518bhp (and 465lb ft of torque) in the late 2006 S 63 and CL 63 models.
Applications:
2006 E 63 AMG
2006 ML 63 AMG
2006 R 63 AMG
2006 S 63 AMG
2006 CL 63 AMG
2007 CLK 63 AMG
2007 CLS 63 AMG

I was right this time.:D

It's yet to come out - S63 too. The magazines did the reviews in their last issue, but it's not around just yet. Have seen the CL600 already though.

I guess maybe Wikipedia lied to me. It can do that from time to time. It is pretty late for an '06 model.

 Indeed, considering that it's already 2007. In fact, the new CL isn't even a 2006 model, it's a 2007 - no chance the AMG one will be an '06. However there was a CL65 for '06 - perhaps where the confusion comes from.

 I give up:ouch:. Time to go and study more about the three-pointed star. Maybe I can find out about this CLS 1000.

EDIT: And I've found answers:

Wikicars
Powertrain
In the 2005 model year, the CLS-Class' powertrains include one of the following gasoline- engines:
CLS 350 - A 3.5 L V6, generating 200 kW (272 hp DIN), and 350 N·m (258 ft·lbf) at 2,400 rpm
CLS 500 - A 5.0 L V8, generating 225 kW (306 hp DIN), and 460 N·m (340 ft·lbf) at 2,700 rpm
CLS 55 AMG - A 5.5 L Supercharged V8, generating 350 kW (476 hp DIN), and 700 N m (516 ft lbf)
CLS 320 CDI - 3.0 L V6 Diesel
CLS 1000 - A 10.0 L V16, generating 450 kW (900 hp DIN), and 567 N·m (874 ft·lbf) at 7,400 rpm(Only Sold On The Moon)

I'm guessing this car doesn't exist or there is a German colony up there we have yet to find out about.

Doesn't exist and never will. Biggest AMG engine (7.3-liter V-12) ever is being presently discussed elsewhere in the forum.

But such engines have. I remember there were days with guys running around in like 20L engined cars producing about 150 hp and good for 80 mph. With the current trend of increasing displacement, I wouldn't be suprised to see a 10L engine in ten or twenty years.

The 63s (6.3 liter V8) are replacing the old 55s (5.5 liter V8) right? i wonder what that means for the 65s (6.0 liter V12) i guess thats where the 7.3 liter comes in. *crosses fingers for SL73 and S73*

The current crop of V12s replaced the old 7.3L V12.

Mate, I'm just hoping for a SLK63......:D

That would be a bit on the wild side. But no doubt very fun. I think it would be cool to build a 10L engine and put it on one of those old GP racers. Super light car designed for 150 hp but with 1,500? WOOPEEE!!
