I was conflicted about posting this car here 'cuz I do consider this car's shape to be...unholy.

But I like unusual cars that have a bit of story behind them so here we go...

To promote the American Copper Development Association, Virgil Exner designed this um, "striking" roadster on Shelby Cobra chassis number CSX2451.

The Mercer Cobra was part of a series of designs known as the Revival Cars which Virgil Exner presented in the December 1963 issue of Esquire. Only two years later the Mercer was produced, as was the Bugatti 101.

Fabrication of the body and interior was entrusted to Sibona-Basno of Torino, Italy. There they formed the unique car with its open front wheels, pop-out headlights and intricate ornamentation.

It features 289ci/4.7l V8 making around 270hp. Chassis was lengthened by 18 inches too.
Those gauges are not functional however.
