First off, I applaud you and laugh for referring to Raikov as a women as he was based off of Raiden of MGS2! LOL And no, he is male. Hence the flat chest and the thong....Okay so the thong kinda throws it off and is a bit disgusting. :yuck: It's hintted that Volgin is a bit of a "bi" kinda like Vamp from MGS2. I know...weird.

And there are many more of those frequencies. Check your Codec under "Healing Radio" and it'll be listed there along with other blank stations. You'll have to find more of them either by interogatting, random frequency searches, or by looking online. ;)

Yea but Raikov has such a girly voice and that thong thing looked VERY weird :ill: ....come on Raikov=girl doesnt seem too rediculous does it?? I mean the president in MGS2 thought Raiden was a girl.....
Also why does he wear a Colonel uniform but is refered to as a Mojor :odd:

After the Torture etc... i went back to the locker room and Raikov had gone but in his locker was a sneaking suit :D :D It reduces all damage by half and also keeps you warm so your stamina bar goes down slower and i beat (well not really beat)The Sorrow and got his camo and now my footsteps are silent :D. The Sorrow fight was COOL 👍 and i now know why Snake wears an eyepatch.

This game gets better and better!

Hi, joining the convo a little late, but heres my views on MGS.

i completed MGS3 after 3/4 days of solid play (no pun intended). And have to say that the plot/story was way worse than that of 1 or 2. The cut scenes just dragged on way to much. However it was more "real" i felt. Plus having all those weapons was a nice big plus.

How long did it take people to suss out what to do in the jail cell?? coz the 1st time i did it, the guard opened the door 4 me! lol dumbass.

How many guessed the end twice after the credits on either 2 or 3?? i didn't. They were both pretty pointless, but they was very clever!

I think you have to look at this game not from JUST a story and/or acting standpoint, but from what the creator was trying to say with each seperate game, than what he was trying to say with them as a collective. It's amazing how much went into the game and despite that how many flaws there still are. It's still the best game series I've ever played and is still my opinion (as opposed to a fact). So much goes into it, it's unbelievable. It makes GT4 look quite clean in a sense.

The thinking-man's video game series. Both of 'em. ;)

Hiya! :D :embarrassed:  Meow! (='.'=)

From my view, I think MGS3 have the best "impact" sense in it that makes it better than the rest for me. I like games that messes around with my feelings. Like if the hero gets beaten, because the bad guys cheat, I get that sense of anger a bit. When there is a sad scene, it makes me feel sad or want to cry.

I really enjoy how they make Snake and The Boss look at each other as mother and son kind of thing. They are shown to be close to one another, but war seperates them from being together....they are just doing their job. (like Snake and Gray Fox in the past)

The three scenes that impact me the most:

1. Snake rest himself on a tree, brokened up as The Boss extends her arms as a "sorry" expression. And Snake does the same thing but he is like "mother....why..."

2. Volgin beats Snake up in the torture room. :( I was in tears as I watch Snake get beat up with blood spilling all over the ground.

3. The Boss is ordered to take out Snakes eye. You can see how she doesnt want to....:(

This game will always be in my heart because it struct me where it counts...just like Final Fantasy X and Lord of the Ring(movie series) :embarrassed:

Oh my gods...this game has done a number on my emotions has well! (BTW, use plural of "gods" to be non-denominations and so as to not irk people about such trivial things! lol)

I didn't see them so much as mother and son; it was deeper than that to me if it could be possible. I think they describe it better in the story. The ending...I can't even begin to describe it without coming close to tears....

Emotional sequences in order:
1. The Codec conversation with the Boss and Snake--when Snake says out loud how long it had been since they'd last spoken down to the minute..... Very obsessive in a way, but not in the creepy since.

2. Being disarmed and thrown off the bridge.

3. Being disarmed again and told to run. I could feel Snake's pain again. Poor guy....

4. Watching the Boss scare Volgin and pwn Ocelot (on the dock).

5. Oooh, the whole last hour of the game, from fighting Volgin to escaping to fighting the Boss and so on.... Though fighting the End was taxing on my concentration and vision.

Yea i also thought the Torture Room cut scene had a big impact on me(never had a game make me feel like that before) and also at the beginning where The Boss defected and threw me off the bridge :(

Anyway at The End fight i made 2 saves on my memory card because i heard that after a certain time The End dies of old age so today i remembered and loaded the game and it went to a cut scene. Snake was falling asleep and fighting to stay awake, he dragged himself up but then immediately got shot with a tranquilizer bullet. The End then came and carried Snake to the Cell inside the lab!!! You know how much time that saves if you do that?!

I thought the torture room sequence was a bit corny, already saw that in MGS1. Same with the ****ting guard... still fun to see him though and bang on the fence to annoy him. :dopey:

he ****ting guard in MGS3 is related to the ****ting guard in MGS, if you get the cut scene where you talk to him he tells you his name and his kids name and it's the name of the guard in MGS. As for the torture scene, in MGS you felt for snake, but it was much better done in MGS3. Everything was better done. MGS was the best for me because it the first part of a superb experience I had only dipped my toes into, MGS3 is THE best so far in a technical and gaming perspective. I loved the storey too, it actualy makes you think about this "rebel" Big boss that Solid kills and you see why he went off like he did and turned on America. I even though, why did Snake kill him, he wasn't a "really" bad guy, he'd just been HEAVILY used. MGS3 played on me like a ****ing kid with a scalectrix set. As for the end after the credits, when Ocelot said he was the informant, ADAM, that got me thinking.

Big Boss ain't dead. He was burned badly and defeated, but wasn't killed. That's going to be the story of MGS4. Big Boss was kept barely alive. Snake is starting to suffer the effects of Fox Die. He'll need the research and DNA of Big Boss to help save him. Well, that's what insiders to MGS4 are saying.

Oh, and MGS is the third game of MG, MGS game series. Don't forget the other two that came out for the other consoles. You'll get to play these games, in their original form, when MGS3: Subsistance comes out in the Fall.

Forward the date of your PS2 one week. The End will die. But, you don't get his tranq rifle or his camo when you do it.

Subsistance is going to rule!! Online play! The original Metal Gear games! Oh man....

I figured out that Ocelot was probably ADAM once he told Snake his name was "Adamska". I know that's not his real name; there's no way. He works for the CIA and I doubt he's even Russian. But still, he's the only character thusfar to appear in all 3 MGS games so who really knows?

I think subsistance sucks. They should give the extras to the buyers of the original for free. Why screw over your best customers by making them pay twice? I won't buy this.

...Because they had to spend money putting in all these new features? Just my guess from the standpoint of a worker/developer/whatever.

Yes, they COULD have done that but how would they have been able to distribute it fairly? How would they verify who had it before hand? It seems like it would be cool, but they'd just be doing more work on an old game when they could be working on MGS4 instead of worrying over someone who is too impatient to wait until it drops in price.

Why should they give it for free? They worked on something, and they should get paid for it. You don't work for free, do you?

They gave us a lot with MGS3 the way it was. MGS3: Subsistance will give us a lot more. We should pay whatever they think is fair. And, if you don't think it's fair, don't pay. But don't demand they give it to you for free.

I, for one, would love to play the two original MG games. But, that's the only thing I want from it. So, I wont buy it myself, at the full price. I will buy it once it lowers in price.

Revolver Ocelot is the son of The Boss and The Sorrow, in case you missed that in MGS3. The Boss' father was a member of the Patriots, and so Ocelot works for them. He works for the CIA, or whomever he wants, because it's all set up by The Patriots.

Regardless of his parents, his nationality is determined by his birthplace and how he is raised. We know very little of where he was raised which is what I meant here. :P We do know he worked for the Patriots (or more precisely the Philosophers in general) but he had to have been assigned one place at a time to work and grow up more or less.

Of course this is all my opinion and I could be very wrong. Either way we don't know of what exactly he did before MGS3 unless there are some references in the MG games that I don't know about....

Yes, we do know how he was raised. By the Patriots. Oh, and the Philosophers are, and always have been, the Patriots.

The Boss gave up her child, born on the battle field, to her Patriot father. He raised the boy, obviously, and made him the Patriot spy he is today.

Here's his timeline:

1944-1964: Ocelot, the son of The Boss and The Sorrow, is born on the battlefield during WWII. He is educated and trained to be a spy by the Patriot's.

1964: Ocelot is sent to the Russian GRU faction. His mission is to steal the Philosopher’s Legacy. He achieves stealing at least half of it.

1964-1995: Ocelot is still a spy and is working in Russia. Probably trying to get the rest of the Legacy back. He also fight wars in Chad, Mozambique, Afghanistan and a few other places.

1995: Ocelot is sent to Outer Heaven by the Patriot's to spy on Big Boss' regime.

1997: Two years after the fall of Outer Heaven Ocelot joins Zanzibar Land along with an old comrade later to be named Vulcan Raven. He is still a Patriot's spy.

2005: Ocelot is sent to Shadow Moses by Solidus (okayed by the Pat's). Ocelot recovers the Metal Gear Rex testing data and all of the people who were supposed to die did. Except for Solid Snake and Liquid Snake's arm, which he grafted onto himself after Gray Fox sliced it off.

2007: While he is still believed to be under the employ of Solidus, Ocelot "rejoins" his old friend Sergei Gurlockivich. Sergei believes Ocelot wants to help him rebuild mother Russia. While on the tanker Ocelot steals Ray for Solidus (not really, remember this all apart of the S3 plan). And sinks the tanker.

2009: Ocelot helps Solidus take over the Big Shell. While on the Shell Ocelot monitors Raiden's movements and makes sure everything goes smoothly while still fooling Solidus and Dead Cell. At the end of the game Ocelot "betrays" (not like he was ever really his ally) Solidus. While attempting to kill Solidus, Raiden, Snake and Fortune, his reattached arm which once belonged to Liquid Snake takes over Ocelot. The Nanomachines causes Ocelot to switch personality's to Liquid Snake, or hence forth, "Liquid Ocelot." Liquid Ocelot steals Ray again and leaps off of Arsenal Gear convinced he can stop the Patriots.

2012 (Maybe): Liquid Ocelot is starting to develope his own "Outer Heaven." Fox Die is killing Solid Snake, and needs to find Big Boss, his "father," to help him get cured. Solid Snake put a becon on Metal Gear Ray at the end of MGS2, and knows exactly where Liquid Ocelot went. He could have recovered MGR, for all we know, or has kept his location a secret util he needs to do something about it. Or, Liquid Ocelot knew about the becon, and got rid of it. All this will sort out in MGS4, whcih is now in production.

The Patriots are the American branch of the Philosophers. I think you missed that part. It's at the very end of the game after the credits when it shows the timeline scrolling down. They changed their name to the Patriots, the American branch did.

Where did you get this information? Some of it seems more like speculation but the rest is very good stuff.

OK, this is where it starts to get confusing. The Patriots branch off from the Philosphers, which where US, Russian and Chines leaders. The Philosphers, who didn't become Patriots, became whom?" Are you saying they just dissapeared? That sounds like a horrible idea. There were once the Philosopher, and now they're nothing? Nah, I say, even though there was a branching off, there still are Chines and Russian Philosophers as Patriots, IMO. There has to be, or the story just doesn't work right. Maybe, the "Wiseman Commity" is made up of some Russian and Chinese Philosophers who didn't become Patriots?

I don't think the "Wisemen Commity," or the "overseers" of The Patriots, are really dead, which was indicated by Otacon at the end of MGS2:SOL. I think that info on the disk was placed there to throw people off. It's just another Patriots/WC trick. If there were an "ooze" then somebody has made them real. But who? When? How? Maybe, the "tres" Big Boss clone program was started in an attempt to give a pyhiscal human body presence to the Patriots/WC?

I got it from... hmm... I forgot! But, yes, the 2012 is soley speculation, but the rest is real and accurate.

Great timeline Solid 👍, MGS was the fourth Metal gear game though, there was one rather dissapointing third game called Snake's revenge or something like that. As for Big Boss, I'd soo love it if he was still alive, it'd be great if you could see Snake meeting him again after we've seen the story of Big Boss in MGS3.

If someone came and read everything on this page and knew nothing about MGS, they would never guess we were talking about a game. This storyline is sooo complex and what makes it worse is that i havent even played MGS1 so im having a bit of a hard time trying to understand the WHOLE story....(mainly the bit about the Patriots and what Solid Lifters is saying 2 posts up)

EDIT: One day im gonna find MGS1 and play it but its not in any of my local game stores :( . Probally gonna have to buy it off the internet or something like that.

If you see it, buy it and play it, it may have Ps1 graphics but it's a great story.

Only problem with the original PS1 version: no shooting in first-person view. :ouch:

I'm sure that there are some Russian and Chinese members in the Patriots; employ, but from my understanding, the Patriots control America directly and everything else indirectly. I also think that those ex-Philosophers who did not become Patriots became other world leaders, albeit very quietly. Some of them are probably ambassadors et cetera, but they actually run things from the background still, probably through "the power of suggestion" as they say.

I think I just might have to replay MGS1 and 2 again to double check myself and see if I can't pick up any more hints from the story or characters' actions or dialogue. Some things are still very confusing and I'm still not sure after beating each game at least five times that I understand.

I understand a lot of it, I thnk Solid has a better knowledge of the storey than me though. It's a very tight story, if you miss small details you can get the wrong idea on a lot of it and find it confusing. If you wan to know the story and get a deep understanding of it, you have to know all the backgrounds of the chartcers and the stories of the first Metal gear games, you can read the stories from them in MGS, theres some extra's on the disk with the different stories there to read.

There are five Metal Gear/Metal Gear Solid games in the series. All are fantastic! I played Metal Gear on the Commodore 128 back in 1988. I never played Metal Gear 2, but I, and you, will get that chance, along with Metal Gear, once MGS3: Subsistence comes out. It will feature both original versions of MG and MG2:SS. So, with that, I issue a WARNING!: Spoiler Alert! from here on out! So, don't read the below if you don't want to be spolied.

1.Metal Gear: Released 1987

Story

Near the end of the 20th century, 200km north of Galzburg, South Africa, lies Outer Heaven, a fortified state founded by a legendary mercenary. Word had gotten out to the western world that deep within the Outer Heaven stronghold, a weapon of mass destruction was being constructed. Government officials order the high-tech Special Forces unit FOXHOUND to infiltrate the fortress, access the situation and neutralize the threat. In a mission known as "Operation: Intrude N313," FOXHOUND operative Gray Fox infiltrated the Outer Heaven stronghold. Days later, contact with Gray Fox is lost and his last transmission simply reads "METAL GEAR..."

Operative Solid Snake, FOXHOUND's newest recruit, is ordered by leader Big Boss to rescue Gray Fox and carry out his mission.

Upon insertion into Outer Heaven, Snake makes contact with local resistance members Kyle Schneider, Diane, and Jennifer. Using all of his skills and the equipment he procured on site, he manages to rescue Fox. He learns from Fox that Metal Gear is the codename of a nuclear warhead-equipped bipedal walking tank, which can engage and dominate in all forms of combat as well as launch its nuclear warheads from any location. Outer Heaven plans to use Metal Gear to impose itself as the new world superpower.

In order to destroy Metal Gear, and topple the Outer Heaven mercenaries, Snake rescues the lead engineer of Metal Gear, Dr. Drago Petrovich Madnar, and his daughter, Elen. Armed with information on how to destroy Metal Gear, his skill and indomitable spirit, Snake fights through the entire Outer Heaven force. He begins to notice that traps being set for him are too precise, and wonders how information on his activities is being tracked. Moreover, Schneider is wounded by hostiles and is presumed dead after losing contact with Snake.

Upon destroying the powerful Outer Heaven defense system, Snake is able to neutralize Metal Gear. As he makes his way out of the compound's basement, he is confronted by the mysterious mercenary leader of the Outer Heaven forces, who turns out to be Big Boss himself.

Big Boss has been using his connections in the U.S. government to establish his own mercenary force, corrupt and steal military intelligence, and fund his activities. It was his aim to have Outer Heaven become the world's most powerful nation, with him at the top. He had the rookie Snake sent in, hoping to have him captured and feed the U.S. government misinformation, but had underestimated Snake's capabilities.

Having lost Metal Gear and much of his force, Big Boss starts the self-destruct sequence for the compound, and an underground battle ensues between Big Boss and Solid Snake. Despite injury, Snake defeats Big Boss and escapes the Outer Heaven compound as it crumbles in flames behind him.

Cast Of Characters

Solid Snake - The player's character. One of FOXHOUND's newest recruits. Operation: Intrude N313 is his inaugural mission as FOXHOUND operative.
Diane - Resistance member who seems to possess a great amount of knowledge on the mercenaries in Outer Heaven. Once the vocalist of a positive punk band, she now lives with her boyfriend Steve.
Big Boss - Leader of FOXHOUND and Solid Snake's commanding officer. He provides Snake with information on the weapons and equipment procured on-site.
Dr. Petrovich - Robotic engineer responsible for the creation of the TX-55 (Metal Gear) prototype. He was captured on his way to the U.S. and is now being forced to make war machines for Outer Heaven, while his daughter is held hostage.
Jennifer - A resistance member. She infiltrated Outer Heaven as part of their medical staff in order to find her missing brother. She supports Snake internally by helping him gain access to certain areas and equipment.
Gray Fox - FOXHOUND operative with a Fox codename, the highest commemoration given to any FOXHOUND member. He was taken prisoner
Schneider - The leader of a resistance movement in Outer Heaven, who seeks to avenge his family's death. His former occupation as chief architech in Outer Heaven has earned him the knowledge of the fortress' structural layout.
Elen - A former Bolshoi Ballet star and the only daughter of Dr. Petrovich. She was captured and taken to Outer Heaven as leverage against her father.

2. Metal Gear 2:Solid Snake Released 1990

Story

By 1999, the Cold War had thawed, and nuclear disarmament by the major world powers promised a bright beginning to the 21st century. Despite this, all was not well in the world. A series of shocks to the oil market spurred the development of new high-tech energy sources, including fusion power. However, most vehicles still relied on oil for power.

Oil reserves were at a critical low, and the world community was prepared to take drastic measures, either by drilling into sand and shale for more oil, despite the difficulty -- or moving on to renewable fuels.

Such steps proved unnecessary when a Czech scientist, Dr. Kio Marv, successfully bio-engineered a new species of algae, OILIX, that could produce petroleum-grade hydrocarbons with little expense and effort. Marv presented the algae to the World Energy Conference in Prague, and was on his way to a demonstration in the United States when he was kidnapped by soldiers from Zanzibar Land. NATO discovers that Zanzibar Land's leaders plan to hold the world hostage by controlling the supply of oil, and some good old-fashioned nuclear brinksmanship, courtesy of a stockpile of nukes.

Solid Snake is brought out of retirement by FOXHOUND's new commander, Roy Campbell, and is sent to Zanzibar Land to rescue Dr. Marv. On the course of his mission, Snake teams up with Holly White, a CIA operative posing as a journalist, and Natasha Markova, a former StB agent and Dr. Marv's bodyguard. He is also reunited with Dr. Petrovich Madnar, the Metal Gear inventor from Outer Heaven, who claims to had been captured once again to build another Metal Gear tank (called Metal Gear D) for Zanzibar Land. Snake learns from Dr. Petrovich, that Big Boss, Snake's former commander, was alive and well, leading Zanzibar Land's forces.

However, upon reaching the suspension bridge leading to the Detention Camp, Natasha is killed by a missile fired by Metal Gear and Dr. Petrovich is recaptured by the enemy. The new Metal Gear's pilot is revealed to be none other than Snake's former mercenary buddy Gray Fox. Determined to accomplish his mission, Snake fights against Zanzibar Land's elite mercenary force (which includes former Outer Heaven resistance leader Kyle Schneider, now a member of the Black Color ninjas) and manages to reach Dr. Marv's cell.

Unfortunately, Snake arrives too late, as he finds Dr. Marv's corpse, who was unabled to survive the repeated torture sessions, along with Dr. Petrovich, who was unabled to save him. Just before Snake could retrieve the OILIX formula left by Dr. Marv, Holly reveals via a radio message that Dr. Petrovich was not captured after all, but was in Zanzibar Land voluntarily overseeing the development of Metal Gear. After the truth comes out, Dr. Petrovich attacks Snake, but the fragile old man is quickly overpowered by Snake.

With OILIX formula in Snake's hands, Snake was confronted by Gray Fox and Metal Gear D once again. After successfully destroying Metal Gear, Snake found himself in a minefield. The two enganged in hand-to-hand combat against each other and Snake eventually emerged as the victor.

After defeating Fox, Snake was forced to do battle with Big Boss. With no weapons at his disposal, Snake was forced to improvise and make a homemade flamethrower consisting of a cigarette lighter and a can of hairspray. Taking Big Boss by surprise, Snake defeated him for the second and last time. Snake and Holly escaped and together, they delivered the OILIX formula to Campbell.

After the situation was defused, Snake disappeared into the Alaskan wilderness, not to be heard from for a long time.

Roy Campbell - FOXHOUND's new leader and Snake's commanding officer.
Holly White - A CIA agent who infiltrated Zanzibar Land as a journalist. She supports Snake internally and helps him by navigating his way way into the fortress.
Natasha Markova - A former Olympic skater. She was stripped of her competition rights after attempting to flee her country and elope with a western man named Frank Hunter. She now works as an STB agent and Dr. Marv's bodyguard.
Master Miller - FOXHOUND's drill instructor. He provides survival tips to Snake via radio.
Yozef Norden - A wildlife specialist. He provides Snake with his expertise when dealing with animal matters.

I need some help. I cant beat The Boss. I can get her to under a quater of her life but then the time runs out.
Could someone give me some tips or strategies they think can help me??
Thanks.

I found it easier to master cqc, whenever you knock her down, pull out you're traq gun and shoot her with that then put it away again and repeat.

I beat her :D :D
What i did was let her come close to me and beat me down then she steps back and starts shooting. At this point i get up and run behind the nearest tree. She shoots for a few more secs and then runs. Because im behind the tree i can see where she runs. She pokes her head out and notices me standing up and a question mark appears above her head because shes far away and cant see me too well so she comes towards me so i move away but not too far. When she comes to the spot she thought she saw you she starts looking around. If your close enough start unloading!! She falls down and then you can run up to her and shoot her some more. when she gets up immediately start punching which will daze her and you can shoot her some more but if you are unable to hit her, she will start shooting so you will run behind a tree and she will shoot for a few seconds and then she will run. See where she goes and let her spot you.....etc...
Did anyone find the white snake in the field??
The ending was very good!

On the demo theatre there are some clips i havent unlocked. Do i have to do the whole game again to see them?? Like the Snake and Ocelot scene with the gun on the plane, there are 3 clips!!

Hiya! :D :embarrassed:  Meow! (='.'=)

I have never notice this! :bash: I need to go back and play this game again  There really are 3 clips of that scene of Snake and Ocelot on the plane? This makes me wonder if choosing either gun will always be the loaded gun. :odd: Maybe so, maybe not.

I know I picked the right gun! :embarrassed: Did you? :sly:

The three clips are:

1. You pick up the correct gun, but it's just a blank.

2. You pick up the correct or wrong gun, but don't point or shoot at him.

3. You pick up the wrong gun, and he gives you the SAA.

I've done all three.
