He is now my hero. A poll was attached to the news story and after 57,000 votes, 89% agreed with his comments. She was only a hero to the chav population!

She was not educated in the slightest, was into drugs and crime from an early age and was racist too. Then she gets cancer and becomes a hero to the part of the British population who are lacking brain cells. I say good on him for telling it like it is. 👍

Thank christ someone actually said it! I made a facebook update regarding that massivley overblown funeral and was also greeted with many agreeing comments.

While I agree with his comments, it was poor timing. He should've actually had some gumption in him and told it how it was a couple of months ago, to shoot down the media circus that erupted after her cancer announcement.

This makes it look a bit below the belt to me.

I've been thinking the exact same ever since her "story" was first plastered all over the media
good on Parky for voicing the opinion of the intelligent people in britain

Well I have no idea who either of these people are, I agree on the simple fact that it doesn't matter who you are if you are a celebrity people will act like it's the greatest loss in the world. Just like Natasha Richardson, she hasn't been in anything in like 8 years yet everyone acted like she was the current big name actress people waited in line to see.

I have heard that her agent is going to make a film about her :ill:

It seems like an odd movie to me.

Richardson was in at least 8 movies in the last 8 years. She wasn't a big name actress, but she was still well respected by the public, & had been around since the early 80's.

I also agree this should have been said months earlier. Giving his thoughts this soon after death is a low blow and gives the interpretation that he's not much of a man.

Not only that but she was from a very well known acting dynasty and was married to a 'big' Hollywood star.

I don't hold anything against Jade Goodey, she came from a scum bugger family, her Dad was a heroin addict and her Mum is trash. I don't blame Jade for milking the fame and trying to earn as much money as she can from it.

The only thing I disagree with is the way the media have portrayed her to be some kind of angel and role model.

Other people have contributed so much more to society in general and they don't get a recognition for it. I think our armed forces should recieve Jade Goodey style funerals, I believe they deserve it.

On the contrary, I think it would have been a big mistake to have said this before now and Parkinson should probably have waited longer before saying what he has said, even if I generally agree with what he has to say...

Parkinson is one of Britain's most highly respected entertainers, specialising in celebrity interviews - as such, his insight into the nature of celebrity is going to command a great deal of respect. I don't construe his comments as an attack on Jade Goody herself, but on her role as a so-called celebrity, and how she was essentially a product of the media's insatiable desire for celebrities - so much so that Goody was a product of a reality TV show that literally made celebrities of folks with little to zero actual talent, and/or with very few redeeming qualities whatsoever...

If anything, Parkinson should have waited a bit before making these remarks, because whether Goody was exploited or not (and she most definitely was) or whether Goody milked it for all she was(n't) worth (and she most certainly did), atleast some good has come from her decision to go public with her battle with cancer (i.e. by raising awareness of cervical cancer smear tests, for example). Hence, choosing to be openly critical of Goody (or indeed the media circus around her) during this time would almost certainly have backfired royally - not only would it have been seen as disrespectful towards her and her family, but it would also have been seen as detracting from the one good thing to come out of Goody's predicament. Indeed, Parkinson still risks a major public backlash for saying this now - but the backlash would have been an order of magnitude worse if he had been openly critical of "the Goody phenomenon" while she lay on her deathbed.

True, but to be honest I think the last thing he wants is respect from the chavs who worshipped her. He'd have been idolised by sensible people if he'd have said it sooner!

Im glad someone hit out at her, I never understood this phenomenon that someone with so much FAIL could become a media sensation and be portrayed as some sort of role model.

She was just queen of the chav's and that was her only following, I also hate the way she milked her cancer so much in order to turn her image around after big brother and then died like some sort of saint!

Yes her having cancer is terrible but as a person she was just disgusting to me especially the racism which was tried to be spun in the media as 'harmless banter' when it was clear victimisation for all to see on TV.

Robin.

It's just wrong that any "celebrity" be treated like this. A Hollywood "celebrity" stubs their toe and the news shows lead with the story. A "celebrity" gets cancer and it's all over the news for days and days, if not weeks and weeks. A teenager from Korea (?) hits his head while skiing and dies and he barely gets a footnote in the annals of history. A "celebrity" hits her head while skiing and dies and it's all over the news for days and days, literally 24/7, and the media are calling for mandatory helmets.

Tis the reason I despise Hollywood and celebrity status. Overpaid, over appreciated people basically doing a job. I have an infinite amount of respect for people like teachers, medical professionals, firefighters, police and the military (etc.) but I have zero respect or time for celebrities and Hollywood.

If people loved their own families as much as they loved celebrities the world would be a better place. Likewise, if the media spent as much time celebrating the ordinary good people of the world as they do the "celebrities", the world would be a better place.

Hmm that last paragraph is poorly written and doesn't make much sense but I can't think of a way to rewrite it. Oh well, hopefully you get my meaning!
