SERIES FORMAT & RULES

A four race series using the Mini Cooper 1.3i done in homage of classic mid 1960's Mini Cooper S racing. We will be racing at the following circuits;

Race 1 (April 12-18, 2004): Smokey Mountain
Race 2 (April 19-25, 2004): Deep Forest 2
Race 3 (April 26 - May 2, 2004): Swiss Alps
Race 4 (May 3-9, 2004): Cote d' Azur

Races will all be single hot lap races run in the Arcade/Free Run Mode. Racers will have one full week to get their best time. All times are due before midnight (12:00am) EST (I am in New York City) on the final day of the race (always Sunday night). All times (final times AND sectors) are submitted via PM to me, Scuderia229.

The general rules are as follows (same as the weekly);

1. You must have 2 tires on the track at all times.
2. The rumble strips are considered part of the track.
3. No wall riding or touching.
4. No cutting the grass or short cutting.
5. No hybrids
6. No cheating of any kind.

Time Discussion: All "T" Times. (DO NOT discuss lap times in the race threads)

A x-port/sharkport is not needed for this race series but is prefered, otherwise you may be asked for your logger data to validate your lap time. I know most people in this series and this should not be an issue but please do not try to cheat. .XPS/.SPS files may be posted in the "Results" thread each week.

Car Specs: A Simulation Mini Cooper 1.3i...fully modified (178bhp). If you don't have the car (and don't have an x-port) it may be won in the Amateur League in the "European Championship". You will NOT be allowed to turn on both TC or ASM, both must be turned off for ALL racing (it is automatically off for rally events). Otherwise you can tune the car and adjust anything you want (no hybrids though), don't forget oil changes.

Tires: Each racer will have the three tire options below;
- Racing Slick (T3)
- Rally (two sets of these for the 2 rally races)
- Racing Soft (T7)

Racers will have to choose which tire to run on which circuit. If you run the "soft" (T7) tires on week two you MUST run the "slick" (T3) tires on week four, or vis-versa. Week one and three are rally races and you have only the rally tire option.

You MAY NOT mix the tires either (i.e. running soft up front and hard in back)...what you run on the front must be the same as the back....all 4 tires must be the same.

Please do not discuss your tire choices in the race thread, though from your sector times it may be obvious.

Points: This will be a points series. Points will break down as below;

1st = 10pts
2nd = 8pts
3rd = 6pts
4th = 5pts
5th = 4pts
6th = 3pts
7th = 2pts
8th = 1pt

Additionally 1pt will be awarded each week for EACH fastest sector. So a racer could come in 2nd overall but they also have the fastest T2 sector so they take home 9pts total for the week.

The overall series winner is the one who has the MOST points at the end of the four races. A tie in points would be broken by whoever has the faster four race combined time. If that still results in a tie the racer with more fastest sector time bonus points will win.

Weekly races will be determined by the fastest time (not points). So 1st place could post the fastest time, win the week and get 10pts but second place could be .020 slower overall but have the fastest T1 and T2 sectors and equal the 10pts for the week.

Feel free to submit times each week and/or join in as you like and race just for fun....

I started to run on this one yesterday evening (it was actually 00:02 am, I waited until the day was 26th :D to respect the rules), and I was wondering how the shortcutting rule could be applied on a dirt track. When I watched my replay, I noticed that in most of the turns I couldn't say whether the car was on the dirt or on the grass. I thought it would have been discussed in Race 1 thread, but I couldn't find this issue. So I suppose nobody cares.
Anyway, my sector times on the first five laps were around 18.6 - ??.?? - 1'00.2.
I wonder how this will compare to your times...

grass is fine. IMO there is in "off" on a dirt track in GT3. The thing you gotta watch for is hitting/brushing the berms on the sides of the tracks. At Swiss Alps you gotta watch out for the berm on the outside of the first big right hander, watch out for the bridge and the final section has some walls that come into play more than you think....you touch a berm/wall you you void your lap....run in the grass or weeds....you are fine.

does that help?

Ha! for once I am in the ballpark with my times, I have been running a few 58.7 T3s with no tunning other than what I had for DF2, which feels good.

On a personal note....Swiss Alps and Cote d'Azur are the reason i ran this series....I should at least score a point this week! uggh!

Cote I am MUCH MUCH more confident with, since it is my fav cricuit in GT3.

That helps.
And I learned to manage the walls on the final section in some stupid Rally licence with a Lancer Evo (I took me days to get gold on this one).

Ha! Or we're both out swimming. ;)

I know how it feels:irked:. I started to play with my settings of yesterday, and got a 58.2 on my first lap. Then I changed the settings (softer suspension, higher chassis, shorter gearbox) and I had a series of 1'00.x. I switched back to my previous settings without having anything back under 1'00.0. :banghead:. gotta stop tuning... gotta stop tuning...

Or we're both out swimming
Actually, I think all 3 of us are out swimming. We're the only ones posting here while everybody else practise... :lol: ...And since everybody else was already faster than us, that won't improve our ranking. :rolleyes:

Or maybe you're the only 3 who have started yet! ;)

OK I stand corrected... GT3mich has apparently driven up to T1 and restarted about 100 times, which explains his lack of T2 or T3 times! :lol:
Nice T1, Jim. 👍

Please let me join the T1 fun. 18.1

And I now do it consistently... :cool:

Once pr. hundred lap. :lol:

New session and new personal best. Cut off a whole second with these T's:
18.5 - 38.1 - 57.8

Lots of time left out there. The questions are as always, how much, and can I make the run to pick it up? :confused:

It never stops to amaze me, how much time I can loose on the dirt. One little correction down a straight. ½ a second lost. Just a little off the optimal line in a turn. Another ½ a second.
Well, the good thing is, that I also can improve a lot with just small corrections. And I guess that's what makes dirt racing so enjoyable. :D

Hey...get that B.S. outta here! :lol:

Anyway I got started last night, my save has a T1 of 18.0 and my T3 was 57.5. Can't remember my T2 because I never look at it, too busy turning there:)

Times submitted.
Not worth mentionning anyway, I never had all 4 sectors good in the same lap, so my best time is around 3 sec. slower that the sum of my best sectors (ideal time).
See you in Monaco for the final wall bumping session :D

I wanted to wish everyone good Luck in the series and thank scuderia for running it. I will not make the last two rounds but it was great fun while I lasted.

Good Luck to everyone.......:)

Sorry to hear that LDM!

I just got home from 48 hours of racing (I race skateboard, semi-pro) and I am about ready to pass out. I will have the results up tomorrow morning before 11:30am EST....

I seriously can't see straight right now due to fatigue....not to mention my sun burn....but it was a good weekend of racing!

until tomorrow.
