I have been battling this mission since Saturday, and it is beginning to drive me crazy. It has been a blast learning Laguna Seca but the AI cars are killing me.
This morning I get up early to go for a bike ride but find a cold rain to greet me at the from door, so I say well I guess I have an hour to play GT4. Turn on the PS2 and turn the volume down a touch so the wife and son don't wake up and select my favorite mission this week #12.
My first few attempts were quite humbling to say the least, brain and fingers are not yet coordinated at this hour. On my 5th try I end up with a not so bad finish of 3.5 seconds behind the Oreca, no worries I am still warming up.
The next couple attempts I am not where I want to be after the first lap (not ahead of the Saleen before the hairpin at the beginning of lap 2). Finally I get a great start, fastest ever and what do I do - I rear end the viper on the corner before the corkscrew - the split was something like 16.2 seconds. I decide to ease up a bit for the next attempt and target hitting that turn at a high 16 seconds so I can pass the viper on the right hand side so I can break in time for the hairpin.
After another fifteen minutes of trying I pull of my best 1st lap where I pass both the viper and the saleen before lap 2 begins. I am getting mentally pumped because I know this is where I want to be after lap 1.
I hit the hairpin and am on the tail of 3rd place and I am able to overtake him before the 2nd turn before the corkscrew (man I am doing great...) So I keep pressing but I am a little to excited and I grab a little dirt on the next turn, no biggy but a loss of a half a second or so.
After flying through the corkscrew I am able to see #2 spray some dirt on the bend before the final hairpin. Focused I smell the kill and keep pressing on. I round the hairpin with ease and pass the camaro (whoever #2 is) before the end of lap 2 and the Oreca is in my sights!
Now it is time for for some serious racing. I round the first hairpin with perfection and fly into the first right a little too excited and I grab some dirt, no worries I am on his tail. The next right is done okay but could be better and I am catching up. The 2nd turn before the corkscrew I brake too early and am off my line! Okay I still have a chance!!
I fly through the next corner and am right behind as we enter the corkscrew. I have to slow a little so I dont hit him. The next left is done with ease and I am on his tail! Oh no! I went to hot into the soft right and caught a little dirt. Oreca is still within reach... The final hairpin I try to cut inside without the penalty and make it, but I lost too much speed! (Dam 5 second penalty fear!) I am a 1/4 car lenght behind coming out but he is a gear ahead at first.
I'm gaining ... come on you Ford!
Finish: 0'00.0152 2nd place!!!!
That bastard is mine after work tonight!
