Mission challenge stage 8

I'm currently on mission 6 in stage 8 the endurance race at blue moon bay I can't catch up to lead car he is always 5 sec ahead. Any got any tips?

I've tried it with a couple different cars but not finding any luck. Max speed Gr3 car couldnt do it.

Pit strategy. You should be able to make it on two stops (maybe one with good fuel management) and either no tire change or change to much softer compounds. Most of the AI cars seem to make three stops so even if they are faster than you, you should be ahead of them in the end (so long as you aren't significantly slower).

I have yet to see them make 3 pit stops while I tried this mission for around 3 hours. they seemed to me to pit around the 10th lap during the 15 min endurance.
