I headed off to Mistral (Monte Carlo) for a bit of an enduro the other day. I watched a few laps of the preview (no way I'm watching the whole bloody thing! :irked: ) and decided that the best car for the job would have to be the Mitsubishi 3000GT. I tuned it up and used it as a bit of a money car, just to get the trick of the settings and get a few laps down before the enduro.

Qualifying didn't go completely as I expected it to. I got stuck behind a bad AI car, and every other corner he'd be into the wall. Being as how I had to jam the brakes for most corners, I ended up with above two minute lap times until I got past. Being as pissed as I was - 'scuse the French - I went on posting above minute fifty lap times for about three laps. When I finally calmed down, I managed below one minute forty lap times, and my best (1:37.856) qualified me in a position no less than fourth.

My opponents were toughies, and their pit strategies work to my detriment. As I had opted for a 5 stop strategy (every 13 or so laps), and the others were on fours, I was constantly only about 10 seconds ahead. Seeing as how I spun at the chicane after the tunnel on lap 60 and was plowed into by 3 or 4 of the other racers and sent into the wall about 3 times ( ) I was relegated back to 5th. Having pitted on lap 58, I was still on relatively fresh tyres, and so managed to haul them back bit by bit in about 13 laps. On lap 75 they all pitted again and so got past and won the race (holding them off was a b!tch!).

3 beers later, with a very sore thumb, I am now a happy chappy with 500,000 credits safely locked away (the prize car was a bit of a disappoint but I sold it and bought a nice Falcon XR8) I have now completed the Mistral enduro (YAY!).

BTW, the 3000GT is now at the used car dealership!

If I remember correctly, you're up against a fairly formidable field. R390, Toyota GT-one? Very nice.

I'd be interested in seeing what you set the 3000GT up with and how you managed to get that beast to turn the corners.

As an additional note, I think the Chicane at the bottom of the hill (after the tunnel) is called the "Box" chicane.

Very nice. I'm glad to see that someone has decided to run this enduro in a regualr car, not a race car.

Kudos.

I gave the car as much power as I could - above 700, if I remember rightly (I could be wrong) - and I set it up basically for speed - Gotta love wall-riding, huh? :D

Anyway, it was a B!TCH trying to keep in front of those cars for that long, and I'm not quite sure where I generated the patience to stick at it for so long with such a crappy cornering car. Probably the thrill of such a close race, but there ya go, huh?

:D Kool Report John,
Always glad to see another member interested in Long Close Races. IMO it's one of the areas where PD Messed Up!!! You shouldn't be able to enter a race w/more Car than the opposition. Where's the skill involved using a F-1 to Lap a bunch of Skylines & WRXs for example???Just my 2 cents worth, Thanx again...UB57
:D

Yeah, I like close races. Using the Polyphony001 for everything just got BORING, so I modded a road car and there's the result.
