Im thing about purchasing a Lancer and i just wanted to know if a Lancer Evolution is a whole different car apart from the plain ol Lancer that we have here in the states? If so (wich i think it is) Does anyone know if they even have them in the states here? Or if they plan on releasing them anytime soon? Thanks for any help.

Do you think it would be a good car for me to purchase and do some killer mods too? Fully loaded its only about $16,000 here.

forget the mods for the base 2wd Lancer... there's nothing much out there for it ,and i doubt the aftermarket will grow any bigger...

still, it's not a bad car for the price... just don't expect anything "stellar"

Well all i really want is that cool hood. With the air intake looking thing. I just like how that looks.

If you only have 16,000 to spend, find a nice used RX-7 (2nd Gen), Honda Civic, or Prelude. Or a Mitsu Eclipse.
If you are patient you may even be able to lay your hands on a Supra.

The Lancer here is the equivalent of the Japanese Cedia, but it is wholly different from the Lancer EVO. Different engine, drivetrain (clutch, gearbox, 2WD vs. AWD), suspension, a good portion of the interior, many body parts, seats, windshields (thinner), wheels & tires...it's a long list. The US Lancer handles okay; nothing to write home about. Mitsubishi is being very vague as to when (or truly if) they will bring the EVO version here. Problems with the front-mounted intercooler failing crash tests (not for safety reasons, but for insurance cost) will make the US-spec EVO a bit less agressive than the Japanese/Euro version. "More than 250HP" will probably be "255HP". Not bad, though.

At the very least, if it does arrive here, the WRX STi will be right next to it. Ironic, though, because I think the WRX will best the EVO in the US, where it is the other way around elsewhere.

My impressions were that the Lancer we have (which is overpriced, slow, and heavy) is actually loosely taken from or based on in some way the EVO VII.

I mean, the EVO VII is definitely based (extremely slightly, but definitely based) off the Lancer. The EVO II through IV were basically Lancers with AWD, a body kit, and a hot engine (not the case no more).

BTW: Lancer O-Z Rally vs. Sentra SE-R V-Spec: Isn't it obvious?

Oh, and for small cars in America, my own list is:

1. SUZUKI AERIO
2. TOYOTA COROLLA
3. NISSAN SENTRA

Lancer is low, though, because it's low on power and high on price compared to the above models.

Wow man thanks for the info. Man i wish they would bring the AWD Lancer here.

Cool man. Where did you get your info. from? Do you have a link or something M5 ??

The petition (just in case they change their mind):
www.petitiononline.com/lancer/petition.html

Someone told that it won't be here:
www.dcdomain.org/r5/auto/auto.htm

Someone told that it will be here:
...erm, no one, actually. Everyone hints at "maybe", "should be", "could be"...nothing definitive from Mitsubishi Motors itself.

In the meantime, I suggest using the petition above. Mits may actually consider it. Then again, they may not. At least not this year. They're doing very well in WRC and homologation rules may mean that if they change the Lancer VII (for the US), they'll have to change their rally car...or be forbidden altogether (much like the M3 GTR). Then again, similar rumous have it that the EVO VIII (8) will debut in January (not the VII in the US), and it will be the VIII that is introduced to the Japan, Europe, the US, and then WRC. This is highly likely, if not early by a year. The VII just came out this year....

Hooligan: I don't know about Mitsubishi Motors, but several car magazines (including the extremely conservatively-estimating Consumer Reports) have flat-out SAID that we will be getting an Evolution in January. Obviously, it won't be the same as the Japanese 300-hp EVO with no five-MPH bumpers. But it'll be an EVO. I'd say it's gonna have 250 HP.

Also, Subaru is either going to or very close to making up their minds about bringing the STi to America (it was released in Britain a few months ago finally).

No offense, but until Mitsubishi is actually quoted (not "I know someone who knows someone at Mits"), that car ain't gonna here yet. I've got car rags that have all sorts of people quoting all sorts of things, including "Porsche will never enter the SUV market" (Schwab himself, I think).

This is in the same near-limbo position as the EVO. No official word, just lots of rumours and half-truths. If the EVO comes to the US, the STi will be right on its heels. Otherwise, the STi will probably wait a bit longer, feeding on the current WRX craze. (I mean, if you don't have any competition, why compete?)

I have a long thing to say about why Porsche got into the SUV market (which then ties into a thing about Volkswagen marketing) but I won't get into it.

Seven-fifty says that the EVO comes out in early 2003 in America as planned.

And yeah, the WRX STi thing...I'm just wishing. But trust me there's a market and I think Subaru realises that, so we'll probably get an STi at some point.

If we compare three different Lancer versions (including the EVO), here are the details:

1. Argurably, the difference between the Lancer (Cedia) and the Lancer (EVO VII) are:
+Exterior+[B/]
-It has a wider rack on the rear (to provide the AWD)
-Different headlight and tailight (design)
-Aero packages
-Large 17 in. wheels
+Interior+
-Recaro dual front seats
-Turbo boost meter (as what you see "Lancer" in the intrument panel.
-Bench-type fixed rear seats (not folding split type, to provide lighter weight.
-Navigation system (optional on the EVO VII GSR)
+Mechanical+
-Of course, the 4G63 DOHC turbocharged engine
-Active Yaw Management and Traction Control
-Large diameter Brembo 4 wheel disc Brakes
-Driveshaft
-An intercooler
-Stiffer shock and spring rate

The reason the I dismay the U.S. version of the EVO VII, here are the reasons:
+Exterior+
-Milder aero package
-Smaller rear wing
-modified front and rear facia
+Interior+
-No Nav. system
-Probbably a 60/40 split folding seats
+Mechanical+
-Less engine power (250 hp)
-Smaller disc brakes
-smaller intercooler

In my opinion, if you want to have the real EVO VII imported (plus conversion and emission) directly from Japan, heres my link:

For only $45,000 you will experience the real juice of the "real" EVO power (source: DuPont Registry luxury classified-ads magazine).

Man i wish i had 45 k to spend...

Check out this months issue of Sport Compact Car. They do a comparison between their project WRX and the soon to be here EVO. The EVO they had used in the comparison was a Euro spec and they HIGHLY praise the new EVO.

I rather have THE original straight from the factory in Japan (of course the convertion is made in the US).

no Euro-spec
no US-spec
no baubles
I like the JDM EVO!!!!!
